Red Kits

From a few years ago. The many active Red dens I've seen. There was "always" one main entrance. I've seen 1 Red den without an exit hole. Otherwise the most exit holes I've seen at a lone den, was 11 exit holes. Inside of the main entrance hole. Is what I refer to as a "Birthing chamber". That chamber is larger then the holes. Whereas, the female/male hollowed out that area. To provide room for the litter.

I had observed this female raising her kits some years back. In this pic she had just came back to her den form an early morning hunt. She stopped at the main entrance hole. Stared down that hole. I suspect she made a sound. But I couldn't hear her. As she was around 70 yards or so away. Anyway, after staring down the entrance hole. Within a few seconds. Her kits poured out & greeted her. By licking & nuzzling her muzzle. she walked away a little ways. Then her kits started nursing. Those kits are around 6-7? weeks old.

It my seem odd to some of you. But during the hunting months. I gave many Red Fox & the coyotes a free pass. Reason being, I just wanted to observe their behaviors un-harassed. It is/was their behaviors that I enjoyed more than killing them. However, in my younger years. I tried to kill them all.
