So I tried do research on headlamps and now I am more confused then before. Can anyone recommend a good scanning headlamp for under 50 dollars. I would really like one that is red or has a red filter. Thanks in advance!!!

^^^ done and done. I use the DJ yellow to scan and shoot. As you can see by PMAC's tests it cut's the intensity down to 88% and I can see good with it. Going to try a little comparison between yellow and green.

i use the kill light xlr 100. I think its a little over $50 but i got to try it out recently and it works great. I also like the power source for it. You cant beat rechargeable batteries

Kill Light XLR 100 is not a headlamp. Although the XLR 250 has no comaprisons the XLR 100 is in the same league as the following if you're going to scan with a red handheld LED.

I use the exact set up as pmack states above and it works great for a scan light. I doesn't take much light to see eyes. You don't want to blast them while scanning. I then turn on my XLR250 for shooting. Best set up I have found
