redfield scopes

I just picked up a rem700 in 243 and it is topped with a 5-15x40 bushnell legend. I like the scope but I dont like the front adjustment for focus on a hunting rifle.
Through my part time job I am in a position to get a really good deal on Redfield scopes and am debating on puttin the legend on my .17hummer and replacing it with a 4-12x40 redfield. The couple redfields I have looked at seemed pretty decent for the money.

What are ya'lls thoughts on them?

New ones arent as good as the old Redfields were. Decent scopes for the $$....but I wont buy another one ( I have the 4-12x40 on a 243) Better scopes by a ong shot..but you'll pay more also.

Well thank you huntsman I appologize for coming on here with limited knowledge and wasting your time.....

I understand that there are better scopes out there and even happen to own a couple of them, however at this point I am looking for a DECENT scope to have on a rifle that spends most of its time in my truck.
So how about some constructive help from folks who might have some experience with these scopes.

The adjustment out there on the front of your Bushnell is for parallax, and you can learn a little about it here.

I put a 3-9x50 Redfield on my newest AR, and I think it`s a decent scope for the cost. The hairs in it are a little more fat than what I like but it`s ok.(just something to consider next time you look through one)
If you decide to get one for a leave it in the truck rifle, you may want to pick up a scopecoat for it too, as they come with no lens covers.

Edit- I have the Accu-Range reticle, the four plex may be more fine.

Don't sweat it Jimmy, Very few of us here are professional writers and often the written word comes across completely different from the original intent. Heck, half of us don't even know how to use punctuation (me included sometimes

).

I personally think that the newer Redfields are a great value for what you pay for them. I can't for the life of me figure out why people are still buying Barska's and CenterPoints and NCstar's when there are better options out there Like the Redfield for LITERALLY the same money. Is it a GREAT scope? No. Is it a GOOD scope? Absolutely. Now, the terms " GREAT " and " GOOD " are subjective ofcourse but I think you get my meaning.

We have very few people here that are only here to pizz people off and run them into the ground, and Huntsman isn't one of those guys. I've found that "short" answers or posts tend to be construed(sp?) as antagonistic or abrasive often when that wasn't the intent. You kinda have to learn the personalities of everyone to learn the difference.

I love my RedField for what it is, and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one for a similiar use. Top rifle is a 10FP in .223 and is wearing a RedField.

THAT sort of says it all...

FWIW, although my scope tendencies lean heavily toward Zeiss and Leupold, I do have a Redfield 3 X 9 on a Remington 597 .22 mag - I have had no problems with it, it seems like a decent scope for the money and they have a great warranty. I don't think you could go too far wrong with one...

Redfield makes a really good scope, they hold up to magnum rounds and take a beating. They have good optics. I like the older Redfields better than the newer ones, the illuminator series is nice... I would get a used Burris or a Redfield over any of the newer lower end scopes. They are twice the scope for the same $, sometimes a little more... sometimes a little less. I picked up a Redfield 3-9x40 for $125 like 2 years ago and it is just as good as the others that I have had for 20 yrs. Never had a problem with Redfield.

I've got 2 or 3 of the new redfields, clarity etc I put on par with my old loopy. Of course, made by loopy and same forever and a day no matter who you sell it to warranty is also nice.

Biggest difference is they have coated rather than fully multi-coated optics. When they first came on market I read a few reviews/loopy interviews. Biggest cost difference was the fullyetc optics, followed by limiting styles (2 adjustment settings, 2 reticles) then 1 finish, and then packaging. The plain jane box + having 'free' lens cloths from MO was knocking 10-15 off the price alone.

What I've personally noticed (or opined anyway) with optics is that there is a point where prices skyrocket, but quality creeps. A $400 piece of glass may be better than a $200 piece of glass, but not twice as good. However a $200 piece of glass should easily be 4x better than a $50 piece.

Someday I may buy a $2000 scope, until then I'm pretty darn happy with the redfields.

the redfield revolutions are decent scopes. And no pesky 'front focus' thingies hangin' off 'em. Of course, for a truck beater that bushnell will get the job done, too........

Im ure that the bushnell will work but that focus thingy will come in a little more handy on my 17 for punching paper.
Truthfully the couple of redfields I hav looked through were more clear than the Bushy.

Huntsman, what are those last two rifles? TC rimfires?

Dang... I guess im the oddball here... I bought a Redfield for my ar-15 and am not impressed AT ALL. I cant get the thing "focused". Ive played with that little ring for hours and cant get crisp crosshairs or a good picture....

For the money, I think the Redfields are a pretty solid value. That said, I only have real world experience with one of them so far(non AO). Being backed by Leupold, is never a bad thing in an optic.

I still believe the Weaver Classic to be the absolute best "cheaper scope" out there in terms of value and performance. I have used many of them, extensively.

Is Redfield just as solid of a value? I don't know yet. I think the Weaver has a tad better glass, though......

Huntsman, what is the 5th rifle down? Ive seen a bolt like that before but cant place the rifle.

Rem M600?

Sorry to hi-jack the thread
