Anyone reloading anything comparable to Hevi Shot Dead Coyote in 3 or 3.5"? Looking to reload a good Coyote load any suggestions?

lyman #6 has the data for 3 1/2" hevi-shot. 1 3/8oz 1 1/2oz 1 5/8oz. Here is one load: federal 3 1/2" plastic case,fed 209A, 35gr steel, one BP TPS 3 1/2" wad, one 1/4" 20ga under shot felt,one mylar wrap inside wad,1 5/8oz hevi-shot, 21gr BP#47 buffer, one 16ga over shot card, fold crimp, 1320fps, 12900psi. A very painful load to shoot i bet. with T sized pellets you might not be able to use the 1/4" felt

I am loading F lead in 3" right now. It is performing pretty well. Would like to go to 3-1/2" next, when these are shot up and I get all the components together.

Get the Ballistic Products Hevi-Shot guide. It has plenty of good loads. The load baltz526 describes is a pretty good one and is in the BP guide also. Steel is my powder of choice for this application.

You might check at oldgobbler.com. They have a section on loading shotshells in their forum. Alot of those guys are loading alot of heavy shot over there.

I have found it to be as good as the Heavy T. 50-60 yards is not a question with a good pattern (not the magic pellet). I have not had enough shots over that distance to say it is reliable. I would not hesitate to shoot one out to 75 as long as the pattern is there. That would be max for my pattern, with the expectancy of a 3-6 pellet hit. Not a for sure, but likely. Some may find that it patterns better than the heavy. You really need to try it.

I get my components from BP also. They are very helpful. I put mine together before the newer coyote load book they published. They helped me tweak my components over the phone, then loaded my load and pressure tested it and called me back with the velocity and pressure for that specific load. Now that is customer service!

Good info. I am getting ready to start reloading for turkey, predator and waterfowl. Figured I would start with the BP buckshot book and coyote book.

In KY we cannot use Buckshot and BP shows F and T as Buckshot but my Hodgdon book does not show these as Buckshot. Any insight as to what the "LEGAL" classification of Buckshot is?

Cedarcrk,

I am using a MEC 600 JR for these. Because I count pellets and then measure the buffer and top with a shot card it makes it eaiser with the single stage.

If I remember correct they also show any letter size shot as buck, even BB. If I can buy it at the store labeled "shot" ie waterfowl loads in bbb, t, f etc. than its shot. If its on the shelf as "buck" its Buckshot ie #4 BUCK or 000 BUCK. Just my opinion, but it makes sense and would be easy to explain to any CO.

Well, I tried to figure out the buckshot rules and regs. by looking at the hunting regs. PDF from the state site. I see that they are no more clear than their mining regulations. In one place under "harvesting furbearing.." it says #2 is the largest shot allowed. My best recommendation would be to try phone tag with the KDFWR.

The MEC 600JR is about ideal for this type of loading.
