Is it safe to reload 5.56 brass for a .223? Not military so wouldn't need to do any thing weird right?

Thank you

GJ

(ps: you guys are awesome)

the military round is 5.56 NATO, so I don't understand how it could not be military...where'd you get it/what brand is it? 5.56 cartridges are thicker and typically hold less powder, but I'll need more info from ya to elaborate.

I have tons of brass from LC, IMG, WCC, and other odd mfgs....Not a problem to date in my Savage guns.
You do have to insure your primer pockets are swagged or you can trim them correctly with a primer pocket tool or you will crush the primer as it wont just pop in.
I seperate my MFGs, but load them all the same.

It is totally safe, but I do suggest you get a reloading manual if you don't already have one.

It is Frontier 5.56 NATO, brass case. My neighbor is shooting it out of his BLR. I told him to stop. Doesn't look to have any kind of selenite on the primer?

Thanks for the quick responses

If you size it in a .223 die and cut out the (possibly) crimped primer pocket, it's going to work fine. If you think the brass is heavier (which it probably isn't, from my experience) weigh one and compare it to a couple of commercial .223 cases. If the 5.56 brass IS heavier, you'll want to back down on the .223 powder charges you've been using.
Once a 5.56 case goes through the .223 die, it's a .223 case. Done it a thousand times. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
