Hi GANG: New to reloading but could use help. Could some of you point me towards a GREAT reloading book. One that gives you a hot load and the low end load, velocity, engergy and trajectory. Also has many different calibers. Maybe you know of a good online site that has good reloading recipes. Thanks

Lyman is the book I use the most but have a few others. it gives you the recommended starting load as well as the max load. Welcome to PM.

Tony

Hodgen's website gives loads for their powders. I like the sierra book for loads but Lymans book has alot of how-to's for beginners and alot of good loads too.

Nosler guide #6 Gives the most accuerat loads, most accurate powder and the best combo of both for all bullet wieghts. Hagrid

I use the Nosler #6 also. I like it. I shoot a lot of Nosler bullets. I've also got a couple of Speer manuals. My buddy just got me a Speer #8 manual. It was first printed in 1970. Definately before liabilaty became a factor, a lot of the charge weights are much different than that of the newer manuals. Maybe the cases are smaller today!!

Nosler and Lyman here, and you can also get loading data off of most of the projectile and powder manufacturers websites too. I keep an old POS laptop on my bench these days just for that.

ABC's of Reloading by Bill Chevalier, 8th Edition. Great for either novice or expert reloaders. This book teaches you how to reload, what to look for and how to overfcome problems. This is NOT a loading manual like that put out by bullet and powder manufactures with detailed load information. But I highly recommend it for new reloaders to learn how to properly reload so you don't hurt yourself or destroy your weapon. And I've seen even experienced guys blow up their rifles trying cute stunts. And as much as you'll hear and read about being careful not to "overload" a rd, "under loading" will get you just as much a destroyed rifle. Didn't happen to me, but did to a friend whose been shootin weapons for 35 yrs+. He has the pictures to show what happens to a rifle when your powder load is under the minimum recommended in a loading manual. It's amazing what destruction occurred to a beautful new Savage .223 bolt gun. Bottom line, this is fun, but can be dangerous if you don't pay attention and try and get cute. So take your time and don't rush things. Learn the basics and have "loads" of fun like the rest of us.

I use current Hodgdon,Hornady,Sierra and Speer in my library, and keep the old ones to cross reference to. I find that that the test gun and bullet type in the manuals does not always represent your question. There are also some great online sites.

Another suggestion is Loaddata.com. 29.95 per yr and 200,000 tested loads to choose from for all firearms. Cheaper than most manuals. look it over. hagrid

I have newer additions of sierra, lee, nosler, and speer manuals. I like the sierra the best as it has a lot of information about ballistics and also has a lot of information on different calibers. All of them are good and I would suggest getting as many as possible. It is interesting to see the variances in the manuals.

+1
I also like www.hodgdon.com, alliant powders homepage, load books usa, and also e-mailing the bullet companies for specific info.
