Talked with a Hornady bullet designer at NRA-2016-KY, about the (30-30) 160 gr FTX expansion vs BO fps.
He said it should expand well at 1300 fps impact due to the large cavity of the ballistic tip and its thin jacket.
That's what I wanted to hear, so this pill should be good at typical ranges for me in Georgia.
your numbers seemed to conflict with what i recall in the past regarding these bullets .... i fired off an e-mail to tech@ hornady and got a response more to what i was recalling the normal expansion velocity of the 160 FTX (and the FTX bullet line in general) being
this is what they sent me
which also matches very closely to my inquiry about the 135 FTX that they just only released as ammo in 2016
i really do wish they would just publish the terminal velocity information on their website for all their bullets. that would save a LOT of time and trouble and make sure that their folks are giving out consistent information.
the only 150-160gr bullet i'm aware of right now thats for sale that expands at those kinda speeds is the outlawstate "subsonic" 155gr and the maker "rex" bullets (which i understand are still in the final stages of testing and are not available out in the wild quite yet)

both of these bullets should perform easily down to 1300, and IIRC as a subsonic offering the makers should expand down to about 800 FPS or so.
the 200 REX subsonic they make expands down below 700 fps
