Reloading Dies for AR

I have a Rock River .223. I would like to start reloading for it. I have been told I need a certain style of die for an AR. Is this true? I would like to use RCBS dies and eventually get my own equipment. Gonna have a friend show me with his press and stuff to get the hang of it.

Thanks,

I use RCBS with my M&P and seems to work fine. Bullets leave the barrel and hit with .5" moa. Never heard about them not working could be wrong [beeep]. Works for me.

Some say that a small base sizing die is needed for automatic rifles. I use a standard resizeing die for my AR loads.. I do have a SB die, but see no need to use it.. I always full length sizer on my 223 ammo for this AR..

Agreed. If the brass is sized CORRECTLY, there is no need for a small base die. I've loaded 1000's of rounds for 3 different ARs and none failed to feed or eject correctly.

Hey,,, thanks guys! I do appreciate the info. Would the Redding 3 Die set that Midway has for $62.00 be a good set to get? I was going to get RCBS but my buddy said Redding was very good and they have good reviews on Midway. Don't know if the 3 die set is necasarry or not though. I know everyones opinion will vary but I like to hear the good and bad.
Thanks again

If you are going to load for the AR only, I think the 2 die set would be all you need. I don't see a lot of use for neck sizing on a semi auto.
I think you need FL sizing every time to make sure you get dependable chambering.
Reddings are good dies.

And, you can adjust a FL die to neck size only if you decide to load for a bolt gun later.
