Hello all! Today I bought 100 rounds of Lake City 5.56 blank practice ammo. It was $5 for 100 rounds, I was thinking reloading when I bought it. After firing 1 round, the crimp didnt expand like I had hoped. Has anyone reloaded this type of brass? Is it even possible?
I tried to add a picture but not able to.
thanks all sb
another try at a pic

I doubt the crimp lines will iron out on this brass, but have no first hand experience. I would suspect that even if you could mostly iron out the crimp the case neck would split prematurely on firing.

I built the first 7.62 NATO (before the .308 Win was introduced) in our area when it was still known as the experimental T65 (precursor to the 7.62 NATO). Brass was not available, so I formed cases using 30-06 blanks, but these had a wad crimped in, not the the vertical crimp used on the 5.56. Since the 7.62 was approx. .5" shorter than the '06, case was trimmed behind the crimp.

Also tried to iron out the crimp to reload as 30-06 but was unable to do so.

Regards,
hm

It is not worth the effort to reload those crimped classes at 223. Brass is just plain too plentiful and and cheap. The results of your efforts would likely be ok, at best.
