My son and I reload for him for his trap shooting. When we got into reloading for it we really had no idea what powder to choose so we just found a recipe and went with Green Dot and its been working fine. Any other suggestions for good shotgun powder for 20 gauge trapshooting?

Thanks

If you are loading 3/4oz loads Green Dot will work well, if you are loading 7/8oz or heavier loads you should use a different powder.

In AA or Rem STS hulls with 7/8oz loads I like Herco, 1oz loads I use Herco in AA hulls, IMR4756 or Blue Dot in STS hulls. Unique is another powder a lot of people like in the 20ga.

All of my 20ga trap recipes are for 3/4 oz 7 1/2 and use Green Dot in Federal Hulls with 209A Federal Primers. Load came from Hodgdon site.

20/28 is on my shelf but I have not rolled any yet. But it has been suggested in several forums.

he's shooting 7/8 oz. with AA hulls and wads and winchester primers. the recipe I'm using comes from lymans manual. He's shooting fairly well for his age of just turning twelve. Just wondering if something else is better than Green Dot. I was new to 20 ga. shotshell reloading and basically just picked a lyman recipe and went with it. Why would Green Dot not be recommended for loads larger than 3/4 oz?
