Reloading for 454 Casull

I am picking up my new Super Redhawk in 454 tomarow and my next step is reloading for it.

I would like to shoot the mid wheight bullets but I will buy what ever I can get my hands on.

I've already got brass and small rifle primers I just need to find some bullets and powder for it. Anyone got some good loads they've been making?

Any help would be great. Ive only loaded for a couple rifle calibers and the 40 S&W. I know the 454 is a little different beast and I just want to know if there is anything I could learn from you guys. Thanks!

That load sounds like a real bruiser.

I've read about a couple other loads that specify "Very heavy crimp." Why is that? For building pressure or to keep the bullet seated properly while in the cylinders that aren't being fired?

The gun comes in today but unfotunately the guys couldnt ship the ammo with it so I am going to have to drive all over trying to find ammo. If I am really lucky I will find the bullets and powder I am looking for, already doing ok with brass and primers.

What are your intentions with the gun? If you're just getting used to it, do you really need max charges of H-110 in a grizzly defense load? Maybe so, I'd rather take it easy to start out.

My only plans for now is to blast some cans and milk jugs. I will take it out deer hunting one day, if I ever buy another firearm tag.

I want accuracy, range and devastaion on target at least as much of those three as can be expected from a large caliber revolver. I wont put a scope on it, just open sights.

I really only got it to fill a gap in my gun collection, because it was such a good deal. I will be looking for some cheap 45 Colt brass for when I want to take it easy but I got to get the 454 Casull taken care of first.

That is a great group Claimbuster! Thats what I will be looking for. I wont be happy untill I blow up a couple milk jugs full of water at 100 yards. AND thanks for the heads up on the magnum primers, I will have to look for some. I just got some Remy 7 1/2 and some CCI400s around, and some 454 brass with unknown primers in already.

I had a taurus raging bull in 454. I loaded 260gr nosler partition hollow points over W296 powder. Can't remember the excact charge weight but it shot great! kinda wish I still had it!

FYI 296 and 110 are the same powder sold by different companies
