Reloading for the 7.62x39mm

I'm interested in reloading for a new bolt gun. I know most people use the cheap Russian ammo for plinking in this caliber, but I want to get a little better accuracy and performance out of the round for a medium range varmint/small deer combo. Any bullet\powder suggestions?

Your bullet selection is not that great, but there are some out there that will work. Just go on Seirra or Hornady web site and print off the loads for the bullet you want to use.

Depending on what your rifle is, bullet selection can be slim. Some 7.62's have a .311 bore others a .308. If you have the .308 bore, any 30 caliber bullet might work. The .311 bore, not so many choices. If you need dies and brass and .311 diameter bullets, I have some I would sell.

Since I didn't see an intoduction room figure will say hello here in the reloading room. My wife loves to to shoot a pair of customized SKS's built her more than her AR 15's, customized 30 Carbines or 22 Hornet. Rifles have squared, honed and tweaked Tapco triggers, tritium sights, 20 round box magazine and padded butt pad extension shaved so length of pull is fitted to her frame. I won't shoot Tula or other cheap ammo through our rifles (personal choice, not a debate) but do have a metric ton of corrosive primed steel core Romanian stored in lockers just in event the combloc rifles get really hungry.

Load of choice for our practice with SKS, AK and bolt guns is a 160 grain Lee cast gas check bullet in brass boxer case pushed by 23 grains of Accurate 2230 or 23 grains of H335. Used to prefer Reloader 7 for my x39 cast loads but the Sandy Hook shortages lasted so long on Reloader 7 (25 grains) even with my huge inventory had to try other powders which found they worked out well. Cycle the actions and shoot fine to 100 yards though not the flattest trajectory. For putting rounds down range they are cheap, easy on the brass and will shoot 1" groups from our bolt rifles on 75 yard home range. Load to maximum COAL for magazine and let fly.

Come home from work at least once a month and wife (has mobility issues) will tell me need to police up the brass on back deck and get her some more "commie bullets". She is trifty as I am and knows her commiegun ammo is the cheapest rifle ammo in the house to practice with. At 75 yards she can shoot your eye out if get on her nerves so I have to keep her happy as only 50 yards from where park my truck to front door of the Ponderosa...

It's a Ruger American Ranch rifle bored to .311, currently using H335 for both lead jacketed soft points and all copper hollowpoints. Point of impact of each isn't off by much.
