reloading manual for a newbie

I'm interested in learning to reload and before i invest in any equipment, I'd like to learn more about it with a good manual that explains all aspects and equipment needed to reload centerfire rifle rounds. I'm interested in starting out with .223 rounds and possibly also .243 and .270 WSM down the road alittle.

thanks

While it is no substitute for a good manual. YouTube is full of free reloading videos. Ammosmith is a decent one on there. After getting an idea of what it takes to make ammo, price components and reloading kits and dies and see what your startup costs will be. Some kits like my RCBS Rockchucker Supreme kit come with a manual that explains everything as well as listed loads and trajectory tables. It is the Speer #13 manual. Once you get everything going, I recommend one of these Loadbooks per cartridge you'll be loading for. They are excerpts from all the major bullet and powder companies load manuals compiled into one reference with places to document your work. Best $7 you can spend in my opinion once you have the tools and knowledge. I buy the load books before buying components to see the most commonly used powders and listed velocities first.

ABC's of reloading is a good one to start with. don't overlook Lee Reloading products, way cheaper and loads some fine rounds.

thanks guys,
I've been looking at the abc's of reloading just to get me off on the right track. I've done alittle shotgun reloading years ago but never for a rifle.
To be honest, all the warnings i see people posting about how dangerous it can be if improperly done, I'm alittle be apprehensive about it. I'd just as soon not have a gun blow up in my face. I'm definitely interest in it though, and would like to learn more about it.

It is as safe or dangerous as you want it to be- you decide.
If you're a gambler, a hot-rodder, a "well, a guy at work told me he was doing..." then it can be dangerous, but those mentalities make anything dangerous. If on the other hand you can follow directions, understand why the directions are there, and that everything has its limits, then you will be fine. Just my opinion.

I agree pay attention and follow the rules that many reloaders before us came up with and you'll be fine.

Where are you at in IA?
