Reloading Supplies

I guess I have held this in long enough and need to vent, what has happened to all the reloading supplies??
It is not just reloading supplies it is anything to do with just plain shooting.Tried to buy a new rear bag today and everyone I wanted was out of stock and had to settle to place a back order, what the heck it is just a bag.
Talked to a major supplier today and canceled a order I had placed in late December and then asked when they thought the supply issue would start to ease and the answer was not good.
As a shooter we cant get bullets or brass and then the conversation went to powder and primers and the reply was he felt this was not going to correct itself for a very long time if it ever does.
Are the suppliers working overtime or adding help,I sure hope so.
Sure glad I have enough supplies to get me thru the year but I worry about next years supplies for my F/TR shooting needs.
It sure is hard to try and develope a new load when you can not get the supplies you want to try.
OK my rant is over I feel better now.
Good luck guys

It seems some areas are worse off than others , just today i stopped at the local sporting goods store , picked up a pound of varget and some primers , he seemed to have a pretty good selection . asked the owner how supplies are he said it seems to be getting better , and will get better even faster if the hoarding would stop.

Today the Dems have given up on a new AWB. That should help expedite things towards normal. We may not get back to anything normal, but it should help. I'd also check Gunbroker, Armslist and various classifieds if you're looking for something.

I think unless the Libs pass some ammo bans or serious restrictions, it'll go like it did last time around with AR's and mags. In a few years, the demand and prices dropped, and the same supply line kept it coming fast enuf to lower prices to before the craziness, or even lower in some cases. Ex. - this time, mags shot up in price and demand until everybody realized how many we actually have floating around since the Clinton bans. Now, a couple of months later, the prices are about normal with mags. Between the demand, and the metals prices climbing for years before this, ammo and component prices will stay up probably for good. Hornady and Federal have announced 15% increases to go into effect soon. No one wants to build new factories as it is likely the demand is only for a couple of years or months depending on politics. If things do get banned, legal supply and demand will be curtailed anyhow.

Look at it this way, in about 6 years, assuming nothing gets outright banned, and prices look good on components, everybody stock up for the rest of your life then. Hand to mouth is p. poor planning.

They haven't given up just switching tactics.

Yup... they said they will "Attach it to another bill."

This is a disgusting political tactic to pass a garbage bill by burying it in what is called a "Must pass" bill.

"Must pass" bills are the ones that no on wants to be seen being against, no matter what.

So you attach a gun bill to page 374 of the "Save children from rape and incest" bill... and it goes through without mention.

I "hope" the republicans have the stones to dig their heels in on this one - so far I have not been impressed with Boehner as "Speaker of the House"... nice guy, no stones or backbone.

Newt... where are you, now that we need you??

.

On-Line, supplies are still getting hammered as soon as
"in-stock" is posted. But locally, I have not had issues
getting powder, and other than small rifle, all other
primers have been available, albeit $5-$10 price bumps.
Brass and bullets are hard to find, and when they do appear
on shelves, disappear quickly. I planned ahead for powder,
primers, and most rifle bullets, and thought I planned
ahead for pistol bullets, too. I didn't realize how much
pistol ammo I go through until I became bullet supply conscience.

I managed to load most of the shooting season's pistol ammo,
and lay in some re-supply before the madness hit, but at
this point, further re-supply looks iffy. That has me
concerned.

I do hope that we continue to see anti-gun legislation failing
to come to a vote, or failing votes, and that slows the panic
buying...But all of those new panic purchased firearms need
ammo, so the demand will probably stay high. Some positive
signs are predictions of "normal" availability by the
end of the year...

A couple weeks ago I mad the trek to a shop about 50 miles away(1 way) because they had 110 pieces of new Remington 243 brass in stock. I had looked for it online and had no luck at all, seems like all the online vendors are out of most items even common hunting rounds. I just had a new Cabelas open up by me and the reloading section is already pretty picked over.

Not really a rank...just documented a frustration held by many. And as pointed out in other posts, its the LIBS and the folks in Washington who "know what's best for you". The "SAVE THE WORLD FROM GUNS" NUTS, immediately saw they weren't going to get their way by trying to pass some BS legislation to prevent idiot lunatics from killing innocent people. SO what better way than to take away ammo and reloading components in yet another vain attempt to "save the world." I was talking to a well known firearms component rep a few weeks ago and he shared his view of WHAT THE F _ _ _ is going on. Basically, some brain child in Washington figured out that if they buy up as much available ammo, reloading components and whatever, they will somehow reduce the "potential "for violence...(now there's a really stupid booked learned PHD theory). So if BIG BROTHER places unusually high orders under the guise of "military needs", they'd drain manufacturers of supplies, knowing that if the use was for "military needs," the patriotic manufacturers would give them preference over civilian retail sales. Then add the fear by hoarders of reloading supplies, anything that gets manufactured is immediately bought up via open and ongoing (and endless) purchases orders, anything newly produced is sold immediately and the amount of available supplies goes bye bye in a hurry. Now I realize this is just someone's theory, but looks what is happening. The "sequester" has limited spending, yet cut backs worry those in the Pentigon so why not just keeping buying and store all this stuff and when the dust settles and PRICES GO SKY HIGH, the "Dudley Do-Rights" think they have done what's best for you. Somewhere in the midst of all this conjecture, lies a stinkin RAT and we all know who that RAT is. And we, my friends, are all just paying the price of feedin that RAT. Just something to think about.
