Rem 700 ejector problem

I am having a problem with my 22-250 ejecting the shells. Not sure if it is the ejector ar the extractor. When i eject a fully loaded bullet from the gun it will only kick it out a matter of 2 or three inches from the rifle. When I eject a empty brass in the attempt to load in a new bullet the empty brass will usually just flip back down on top of the loaded bullet ready to be fed into the chamber. I have been told that it is my extractor, but I am not for sure. I removed the spring from inside the bolt and cleaned everything up. This made no difference at all. If anybody can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.
This is not a new gun I have had it for 10+ years so it has had a bunch of rounds thru it.

Yep,,, extractors worn out.

About ten bucks from Brownells and about ten minutes to replace and you'll be good for another ten years.

Hopefully you don't have one of the really old riveted extractors.
They can be a little hard to find these days, but not impossible.
Luck

That is exactly what I was hoping to hear.... Alot cheaper fix than buying a new rifle, although I have the wife almost convinced that I need another rifle.

Any number of us would have been happy to slip ya an extractor that the wifey would have never known about.

Sounds like it could be the ejector to me. Take the bolt out and use a non marring tool of some sort to push on the ejector button. It should move in and out freely. Sometimes they can get jammed with brass shavings or the spring gets gunked up and rusty and won't push the round clear of the action. TTT

Got to agree with TnTnTn here. The extractor is working fine or it wouldn't pull the case from the chamber, right? The ejector is what throws the fired case out. Check your spring pressure and clean everything really good.

You guys aren't reading his entire post.
He's already cleaned the ejector.
Even went so far as to take the bolt apart (which most guys don't even know how to do).
Trust me, It's the extractor. BTDT got the t-shirt.

[beeep] this is gettin scary, another instance where I agree with RePete

Definately extractor.

You may be able to go in with a dental pick or similar tool and slide the extractor a little which will temporarily solve the problem. It is not necessary to remove ejector to install extractor.

I've found that a lot of 22-250 brass has a smaller base diameter than what is listed on the cartridge drawings. That is an issue to some. That may be the problem. If you can get some Laua brass measure the base, I'm pretty sure it is bigger than say Win or Rem brass.

Hey,,, cut that out.

Errr on second thought, Since it's the holidays (good will to men and all that crap). go ahead and agree with me if ya want to.
Might as well. I'm always right anyways.

I checked the ejector button and it seems to be working fine, doesn't seem to get hung up at all... I guess if the extractor doesnt fix the problem I can go back to plan B "New Rifle" !!!
