Both the old and new style rem triggers are adjustable. Just google Remington 700 trigger adjustment and it'll show you. If you have a new X-mark trigger, google Remington X-mark trigger adjustment. I person hate the X-mark and prefer the old style Rem trigger over it.

There are many different aftermarket triggers for the Rem's, most common, Jewell, Rifle Basix, and Timney. I run a lot of Jewells and think highly of them on my LR rigs.

The aftermarket ones are nice but ive never had to use one. I have two ADLs in .270 win that have triggers everyone swears are custom. All you need is the micro flathead screw drivers and some clear finger nail polish or loctite. Google will show you several good instructional sites. Good Luck

I believe all the new 700's come with the X-Mark pro that is externally adjustable. And IMO it is the best factory trigger I have used it has no creep breaks like glass and has no overtravel it breaks and stops.

I just now got done tuning the trigger on my bud's 700. I like the old style triggers better. Problem is, they are not as idiot proof........

If I take it down much more I get sketchy sear engagement. My favorite trigger on a factory gun hasto be the T3 I just got it is ~2lbs and breaks like a glass hair.

I've a bunch of Remington triggers tuned to 2lbs or less.

I'll admit, I have had 2 bad ones in my life. One was kinda like you described, would not go down acceptably low and still function properly. The other was my newest, an X-Mark. I can't really say it was "bad", it just wouldn't adjust down low enough to my liking. Both were replaced by old style Remmy triggers that function perfectly under 2 lbs.

I would say my favorite factory trigger is on my Sako 75 Finnlight. Breaks like glass at 19 ozs.......

The X-mark pro is an excellent trigger but not all of them will adjust as low as needed. I have used Jewell, Shilen and Rifle Basix. All are great, the Jewell is hands down the best but very pricey. The Shilen was as good as the Rifle Basix but cheaper last time I checked. All are very easy to install. If you like 1 lb triggers, the Jewell is shipped as such, no adjustments needed. You will also want them for all your other guns as soon as you buy your first one--warning!

Jewell is a great trigger, but I never felt the need for one on a huntin' rig. RB, Shilen, and Timney are no better at all than a tuned up old style 700 factory trigger.......

I dont think the xmark is all that great. The one in my CDL LE 17FB wont adjust at all. I dug out all the crap, cleaned it up and proceeded to bend 3 wrenches on it trying to make the adjustments. Its a POS, I have an old style 700 trigger in the drawer that was better. So I think I'll swap them out and sell the xmark to someone who thinks it the best thing since sliced bread.

My Model 7 with the 'X' trigger came out of the box set at 3# and breaks cleanly. I haven't touched it. My 7 MAG ADL was the old lawyer trigger. Didn't take much to make it a crisp 3.5#. Just follow the instructions online to the 'T' and you will be fine!

My X-mark trigger stayed in my SPS for approximately 10 minutes after I got it home. It was crap. I can't say if all are, but mine was. Sold it for $25. Had a new "old style" with honed sear installed for $35. Breaks perfectly at 2 lbs. $10 well spent......
