Rem 700 ultra mag extractor problems

I have a remington 700 in a 300 RUM that I built. I can't seem to keep a extractor working in it. I was thinking about a Sako Extractor but not sure if of the pros and cons of it.
Anybody been through this yet.

thanks Brant

Yeah I'm on my third one since I built the rifle counting the original. Installed like it supposed to be it wont go over the rim of the case when you push a shell in the chamber.

Hmmm. Must be the bolt itself and not the extractor. I would contact remington and see if they will make it right.

I just changed one out last week, but my smith had one on hand. It takes 5 minutes.

Otherwise, a Sako extractor will run you a minimum of $100 installed, depending on where you go. I would make sure you have somebody do it who fully bushes it. Another good thing to do when having the Sako installed on a rebarreling job, is to slightly take off some of the bolt's rim or nose, so that the cartridge goes further into the barrel......

Yeah everything is trued on the rifle. The extractor doesn't have much spring action to it. I'm going to take it back out and see if their's any burrs in the extractor channel.

Well, you can forget calling Remington, then. What happened, more than likey, is they took off too metal much when they trued the bolt face, and now the extractors won't work.

I would contact the guy who did it. Maybe he will install the Sako extractor for free to fix his error......

I had problems getting the extractor replaced on my Rem 700 22/250. First gunsmith claimed it was the bolt and he sent it to Remington and they wanted to put a new bolt in the gun and reheadspace the gun. I called Remington called BS on the replacing the bolt and headspacing. After several phone calls to Remington and the first gunsmith I had it finally sent back and took it to a gunsmith that knew what he was doing. He claims they have to be placed correctly in the bolt to work and they need to be adjusted. Gun has worked great since he did the work. I would check with a good gunsmith before I sent it off somewhere. I would also advise not to send it to Remington their customer service was terrible when I had to deal with them last spring. I paid shipping and handling to Remington and for 2 extractors that the first gunsmith broke and his price to put them in for a total of $95. Second gunsmith charged me $25 to fix the extractor issue. Im still upset at the first gunsmith and Remington. Remington estimated $350 or more to replace the bolt and headspace the rifle. I asked for advice here and was told I was getting ripped off and to find a good gunsmith which I did.
