I recently just bought a new rem 870 super mag in 12ga. I was wondering about the little bead sight on the end of the barrel. I want to remove it and replace it with a tritium glow in the dark bead sight. I was told by a friend that the bead I have now might be a pressed in style as opposed to a screw in type. I was wondering if anyone had a clue what the new 870's come with, before I muckle on to it with a pair of channel locks.

I don't have a answer for your question but was wondering if a person could take a pair of wire cutters or something of that nature and just cut the bead off?

I cut down an older wingmaster for a house gun. The bead was pressed in on it. take some masking tape and put a little each side of the bead for scratch protection. Get a pair of side cutters ,get under the bead with out much pressure and pry up on it. If it don't come easy check with a smith.

Something else to consider, if you don't want to take a chance on messing up the shotgun's appearance...There is a company that produces a clip-on fiber optic shotgun sight like the one on my Winchester that works really well in all but total darkness....

You could install it just behind the stock bead and never see it..

The bead is pressed in on the Express Models. Just FYI as an option there is a trituim bead that glues over the top of the existing bead that I've heard good things about. You can check on Brownell's website to find it if you're interested.

My gun is an Express model. I never heard of a slip over tritium bead sight, that is awesome, thanks for the help.

Mark2, do an internet search...there are lots of different sight/bead options for shotguns out there. Stick-on,glue-on,screw-on,there are magnetic ones and some that clamp on your rib. The hard part is deciding which one to get !

I believe GC is right about being pressed in but if ya aint gonna use it popping it out wont hurt anything.

express series are pressed for the most part some of the first express series have screw in beads talking about the first year they were made. more thatn likely urs is pressed i agree leave it and go with magnetic or glue on that goes over the bead there are a few out there check out midway usa i have bought what u are looking for from them.
