I'm considering getting a semi-automatic Remington 597 in the 22 magnum....

From current or previous owners I would like to get first hand objective information regarding what kind of accuracy I can expect,,, also what kind of scope are you using.... How about the trigger??? Is it adjustable,,,, or are there any after-market triggers available???

Thanks in advance....

I enjoy mine and have found great accuracy from it. I did do some work to it. I floated the barrel fully in the composit stock, stoned the sear for a better trigger and tuned the bolt guide rods to what my gun likes. I use a weaver 1.5-5x on mine and rattle can camo for the warm months, white camo wrap (there is a sticky thread here somewhere) for the winter months. It is a solid performer to the 150 mark. More the my shotgun, less than the centerfires.

Happy hunting,
B

I have 2 that the kids shoot. They have been great guns for them. The trigger is not very good. The accuracy is very good. Groups the size of a quarter maybe slightly larger at 100yds. one is a heavy barrel and the other is a light barrel both have burris 3x9 scopes on them. The youngest swatted a jack in az at 80-90yds and all he could see was the head. He drilled it drt. Both guns started out as 17hmr and were sent in to be converted to 22mag. The actions have had acouple of 1000 rounds through them and no hickups yet.

+1 brazillion... I couldn't get rid of mine fast enough. Whom ever designed the POS should be shot with it if it doesn't FTF.

I got a Rem 597 in 22lr for my brother and he liked it so much he got the 22mag version. Good accuracy. Jard makes an aftermarket trigger. The magazines were made more rigid a couple years after they were introduced improving reliability. The original mags my bro had were tossed and several later manufacture mags improved things a lot.
