Remington 5mm rimfire magnum

Anyone out there shoot one of these? I've been thinking of getting one, and finally ran across one I can afford. Any experiences good or bad? I like having odd ball calibers, and this one seems like it should be decently effective on groundhogs, foxes, etc. Any real world experience would be greatly appreciated!

I had 3 5mms over the years 2 591s and 1 592 shot the old Rem ammo the new stuff and the center bfire conversion. If you like odd ball the 5mm is the one for you! I shot small game fox ,coyote, friends of mine use them on deer, hogs its like a 22 magnum as far as killing power.

I have one. They are the most under rated rimfire available. They have great ballistics and hammer critters. Mine shoots the new white ox stuff, pretty well...

I refinished it myself and added white spacers for a (BDL treatment) and it wears an USA Weaver V-7

They used to be cheap around here until the new ammo arrived. Few people had any ammo for the rifle, so they were usually wall hangers. Wish I had seen the ammo coming in time to get a deal.

The 5 was a great love of mine as well as most of my friends back in the day when the were introduced. Not one negative comment other than the ammo got too high priced and then unavailable. Wish I still had mine. Jim

My dad had one of those. I didn't think there was a 22 mag that would hang with it. And with hollow points there wasn't a road sign within 5 mile of us that didn't have a good size hole in it.

Then dad found out what I was doing. Anyhow buy it, I'll promise your not going wrong on it. And if you don't like it , I'll take it off your hand for you.

Beautiful rifle,Shane It looks excellent.

If I had it to do all over again Id take the 591 and re-barrel it to a .20cal Squirrel. It would be close to the 5mm rimfire and you would have end less supplys of brass, and not have to fool with that high priced rimfire ammo! Ive got a buddy thats building a squirrel on the 592 5mm

I was lucky and purchased one at a close out auction in 70/71 and with ammo at marked at $3.15 a box. Shot it till down to last box of ammo and put it away. How in 2013 seven one shot kills on ground hogs with no movement 35/80 yards back to shooting it. Got one new box of ammo to see how they worked and then got a life time supply in case they stop again. Wish they make a pistol for it now. Nice little shooter and ahead of its time. Put on a new scope and love the 5mm

I've got two 591's and a 23" Contender barrel in a rifle carbine in 5mm Rimfire. I have always been a big fan of the caliber and even more so when Centurion released the new ammunition. For those who have shot the white box, if you can find it I recommend you find the newer varmint ammo (also from Centurion).

You'll love the caliber and it seems to be the only available ammunition right now (other than .17HMR)! Ironic, huh?

My Dad has a 591. He can't shoot anymore due to the shakes....I'm waiting patiently for it. Hoping he'll give it up one of these years at Christmas! Maybe this year is the one.
