I currently bought a remington 5r 308. have a 20moa base with a vortex hs tactical 5-15 mil dot with mil adjustments. here is my problem. I want to do some longer range shooting 400-800 yard shots on steel, yotes and the occasional deer. What bullet suggestions do you guys have and powder suggestions do you have? I currently have varget and 8208xbr for powder laying around. I have federal match brass too. I want to be able to use the same bullet for my long range shooting and hunting. I also want to be able to order a custom turret from vortex once i get the load figured out.

168 or 175 gr SMKs are popular.....great for longer range accuracy, not sure how they do as far as hunting though.
Personally i think when you get past 400 or 500 yards, you need to be careful with bullet drop compensating turrets (or ballistic reticles for that matter). You probably wont have a problem at those shorter ranges, but when you get further out, atmospherics and elevation changes can make for some problems with your elevation adjustments if you assume they will always be exactly the same.

What i was planning on doing was sending shooting those yards 3-800 and figuring out how much i have to adjust and then sending them that data to help them out. Otherwise i would like to be able to get something that can attach to my scope with the adjustments i need to make so i dont have to memorize.
