Remington 600 Mohawk true or false question

Stopped in a pawn shop today and was talking to the "guy" behind the counter and the subject of the 600's came into the conversation. He claims all the Mohawks without the vent rib on the barrel were made for K-Mart????????? Sounds like BS to me.

I did a little more research and found out that the 600 came out first. Then the 600 Mohawk and it was sold through K-mart. It also had no vent rib and a cheaper birch stock but no vent rib. Later came the 660 and once again it had the walnut stock. Mine has no vent rib but does have the nice walnut stock but says 600 Mohawk on the receiver.

The 660 was the later version. Mine says 600 Mohawk but has a nice walnut stock. Might have been added later. Not to sure but it doesn't matter to me.

The original is the Remington Model 600. Vent rib "blued" trigger decent stock 18.5" bbl
then came the Mohawk 600 no vent rib some have the gold trigger some have the "blued". Barrels on the Mohawk are a touch heavier than the rem. 600 still 18.5", better stock with the exception of the 6.5 mag and the 350mag these came with the birch laminate stock on both calibers. in between the Remington model 660 was issued somewhat the BDL version 20.5" bbl. black tip on the stock and hand grip. Both magnum offerings of the 660 have the laminate stock with the black accents.

As far as the K mart deal can't say but I bought a new 243 Mohawk at a Coast to Coast store.

All three were discontinued due to trigger issues that arose when one tried to adjust them to tolerable pull levels.

Actually they still make it as the Model Seven is nearly a clone of the 660 with a nicer looking bolt handle and NONE-PLASTIC floor plate. The Model 7 is everything the 600/660 should have been in the first place.

I don't think the trigger had much to do with them stopping production as they fixed all the ones that they had a problem with if you brought it in. At that time short barrel bolt-actions were not selling very well.

My 600 had a great trigger, the replacement one is even better. I bought mine in 1966, I had never seen one before and said I'd take the first bolt-action rifle the Embassy Gun Shop in Taipei could get in 223. OMG it was the ugliest rifle I'd ever seen, first stop with it was to the AF armorer to have the rib removed and reshape the square forend. It served me well for 30 years firing untold numbers of 223 as I could get all I wanted in the service and after that a very nice sheriff would donate ammo cans full to sate my addiction to shooting, still have it only now it wears a 6x45 barrel.

I'm pretty sure that Coast to Coast in Detroit Lakes MN carried 600 Mohawks as I thought about getting one for my Ex but she wanted a 760 Pump to go with her Wingmaster.
