Remington 660

Just thought i'd share my latest addition. I acquired this little gem this past week. Its a Remington 660 in .308 with a weaver fixed 4x scope on top. I spent about an hour cleaning all the copper fouling out of it. other than that its a beautiful rifle in excellent condition. I have to call remington to verify that the safety/trigger has been fixed from their recall but from what I can tell it has. here are some pics. Group was shot at 100 yards and the 1" squares on the target are actually about 3/4". Not too bad for a 40 year old rifle!

I sent 2 in for the recall last summer and it went really smooth. Called them and they took some information,e-mailed me the package labels for ups. I dropped them off and had them back in 6days. i'm in ny so shipping was only 5 hrs each way. When they go through their process they also make it so the bolt will open while on safe which is a big plus.

My bolt opens while on safe so that's why I figured it's already been sent back and fixed.

Great little rifles. I have one in model 600, barreled to 222 Rem mag, and a model 660 that I just had barreled to 6x47L. I just wish there were more stock options out there for the 600/660. They are really great little actions.

Congratulations!

Sounds to me like it has been done already. If remington did the work it should be on file there. I have a small v stamped into the trigger, don't know if it was there before or not.

I've got a Remington Model 660 in 222 cal. It's a great shooting gun. I had the trigger fixed and then had it glass bedded and installed a new steel trigger guard on it.

I've not shot it much since I got the new AR15 but it was my first center fired rifle that I bought to shoot ground hog.

The new trigger should have some type of marking on it showing that it's been repaired. I got mine back in the early 1970's. I didn't shoot it very much. The outside of the barrel rusted and I had to remove the rust using some steel wool. So the barrel needs to be blued again.

I took my Remington Model 660 in 222 cal to the range this last week and had some fun with it. I took it to the 200 yard range and used it with the Lead Sled DFT device. I was pleased with the results. Sub MOA at 200 yards and was pleased.

I put a Burris Full Field II scope on it and use the 16X magnification. The Reticle worked great. I do wish it was a little thinner but it works good non the less.

I got it home and cleaned it really good using a new 20 cal 32" long Dewey Cleaning rod. I figured out eventually that the brass brushes I was using were leaving copper inside the barrel as my patches kept coming out blue green after I scrubbed the barrel really good with the phospate bronse wire brushes. So I ordered some new Dewey Copper Eliminator brushes and a CE rod from Dewey to try. At least I got all the lead out and all the carbon out of the barrel. I used both Hoppe's No9 and shooter's Choice Gun Cleaner. Then I used some MPro7 stuff. I'm pretty sure I got the inside of the barrel super clean. I ran a patch with a little bit of oil on the last run though the barrel to protect the inside of the barrel. I had some rust develop on the outside of the barrel during long term storage but I cleaned that off with some very find 00000 stell wool and oil. This gun has been glass bedded by a good gun smith and I replaced the plastic trigger guard with a $100 steel one. I also added some rifle sling rings to the stock. And I think I had a gun smith replace the front metal sight that was broken off. That was pretty easy to fix once he got the right replacement part. The rifle shoots great.

I would love to have it in a .308 cal. I purchased it back in the early 1970's at my first center fire rifle and was intending on using it to hunt ground hogs and foxes. But I didn't really shoot it too much over the years. I intend to make up for that now days.

Oh, And I had a gun smith replace the trigger under the Remington Recall. Now it's got a "V" mark on the trigger.

I really don't like the new trigger on the Remington Model 666 compared to the trigger on my new AR15. The AR15 Trigger is a Gieselle 2 stage SSA trigger. There is no comparison between the two triggers. But the new Remington Model 660 trigger is much better than the one that came on it from the factory. Now I can work the bolt and unload the rifle when the safety is on. And the new Remington Trigger is a little bit better than the original one. But like I said to make it even a better shooting gun it will need a better trigger. I'm not sure what type of trigger will fit and work on the Remington. But a Gieselle or Timmy would be nice.

I wish I knew what type of trigger to buy and have installed to make it better?
