Yeah it will pretty much be a coyote rifle. Southern CA deer hunting is horrendous to say the least. Truth be told my parents gifted me the money for a firearm as a gift for a promotion I got at work. It will be for the range and the occasional predator stand. I just love the classic lines of the rifle and 25-06 is an amazing cartridge. I have a Vanguard S2 in 25-06 for when I think I may beat up the rifle a little. This one will see some use but mostly range work and stands that aren't a very long walk from the truck. Hope all that made sense.
I wish I could comment on the performance on deer but all I have read says the same as you, that it is an absolute hammer. My S2 shoots 80grn Barnes TTSX at 3,660fps and 100grn TTSX at 3,200. Both can still have grain and a half of powder added. There's no way a 100grn Partition at 3200fps would be good for a deer's health. If I ever get an out of state deer or antelope hunt one of my 25-06's will go with me, not even a second thought.
