You can't do wrong with the 06. A lot of people will tell you to get magnums, this, that, or the other but that cartridge is a long proven cartridge. The next choice to make is the scope. That is in my opinion, more important than even the rifle. A fair rifle with a good scope will get you game. A custom rifle with a $50 scope will get you heartburn. Good luck

If you are probably just going after deer and yotes you might consider something of a smaller caliber. Sure, my first buck went down to a good ol' .30-06, but if I took it out for yotes it would bust them up pretty bad, plus the recoil being propped up against a tree or bush would hurt a little. You might think about a .25-06 or .270 Winchester. If you go with the 06 you should go with a tougher bullet to punch through the yotes so it won't ruin the hides. Good Luck!

Take a look at the 700 CDL version, a bit classier wood stock. I have one in .30/06 and I love it. It will last a lifetime.

I'm pretty sure in Missouri you can hunt deer with a .223. I think living where you do, you'd get more use out of a smaller caliber. I'm not bashing the big calibers at all but you gotta think about how much you're gonna shoot it. You can buy .223 ammo pretty cheap for target practice or just shooting. Even a .243 would be a better choice in my opinion.

The SPS is a great price for a great gun. A little rough finish on the gun but you get the great 700 action and it will never fail you. 30-06 is my favorite caliber for deer as well, but I also have a 700 in 243. I shoot this gun more accurate because of the lack of recoil compared to my 30-06. I took a 180lb. buck this year with the 243 and he ran a whopping 50 yards with a 100gr. Core-Lokt run angle-wise from his front shoulder and stopped almost at the opposite hind-quarter.

30-06 will do any tyhing you want no reason to consider any thing else as far as chambering, but I would suggest you try to find a 1-10 twist. I think Remington gives a little choice with offerings from 1-12 and 1-10. The 1-10 is more all around and will work well with bullets from 110 - 200 grn. Remmington is a very good brand as well.

I have had many of Rem's '06's.

Your choice of caliber will depend a lot on what Percentage of yotes, deer, and other varmints that need kill'en.

A 25/06 would be my first choice for you which has about half the felt recoil of the 30/06 and is much flatter shooting.

There will be no need for you to feel underguned with a 25/06 with a 100g Nosler Partition.

In Missouri, you can get some long shots, and I think that the 25/06 will serve you better.
