Hey everybody brand new here and looking for some help. Narrowed my rifle search down to a Remington 700 VS SF II in either .22-250 or 220 Swift. Using it for coyote hunting and target shooting and plan on ordering it come Saturday. Does anybody have either of these and if some what are there opinions?? Already have dies for a Swift and a bunch of brass and 22 caliber bullets so thats not an issue. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hello John,

When I began calling coyotes I owned a Remington 700 BDL VS in .22-250. I'd used the rifle for shooting groundhogs in the mid 70's before the coyotes came along here and killed off the groundhogs. Although the rifle was a much more accurate shooter than I am, it quickly became apparant that the heavy varmint barrel had to go. It was heavy and slow to swing on moving targets such as a crossing coyote at a full run.
I sold the old varmint special and replaced it with first a Winchester model 70 classic featherweight in .22-250, then a Remington 700 BDL in .243 Winchester, then finally a Remington 700 SPS stainless in .22-250. I've found both the .243 BDL and the .22-250 SPS stainless to be excellent calling rifles. They both have sporter wieght barrels that handle and carry well. They are also both sub MOA shooters.

Well ok,here is my two cents,I have a VSF 22-250 heavy barrel, and I have a bunch of other Remington Varmint guns and I love them all and will never sell them. But I agree with Coyote, for a calling gun I took it a step further,I have the R-15 AR-15,its lite and short for going through brush and I love the quick follow up shot for doubles or triples.

I love my bolt guns for chucks or long range sniping of coyotes, but I dont want to lug them around, get something lite and short, you will be happy in the run.

Now if you still want to go that way,I would choose the 22-250,I love my 220 Swift, but for dogs I like the versatility of the 22-250 caliber.Do not believe the crap that people say about the Swift,I reload all my own ammo, and my Swift is one of the best preformers as long as I keep the bullets at around 3900 mv. nice and accurate!!

I have a VSSFII in 22-250 and for what its worth its an excellent bench gun. It is not an excellent carry rifle though. Too heavy and too long for me to carry all day in the field. Very accurate factory rifle ..........

I have a VS SF in a 220 Swift.I am a large guy by most peoples standards and I don't have a problem carrying my rifle around.Would not take any amount of money for mine,it has been to good to me!!!!!!!!!!

Thinkin I'm just gonna have to go with the swift! Seems you can't go with that round and where I hunt it's not far of a walk and it's lots of long range shots so this gun seems to be the perfect fit!! Any other opinions feel free to add! I'm going to order it Saturday!

I have a VSSF II in a 22-250 and like the other i would not sell it for anything its very accurate and a pleasure to shoot. The only thing that worried me about using it as a calling rifle was the sun reflecting off of the polished stainless steel and spooking the coyote.

john- i have shot over 250 coyotes. i have shot them with many different calibers and rifles. the last two years i have shot more with my vssf than any of the others. you can't go wrong with either caliber in the vssf. i consider it a mid weight myself.

VSSF II in 22-250 Hands down, But it doe's get a little heavy by the end of the day if I have to walk, Works great in scabbard on ATV

Ordered the 220 swift thursday! I'll be sure to post pics once I get it. Anybody have any pics of theres with some glass on it?? Thanks!
