Remington 700 VSSF II 220 Swift Base and Rings Help

Hey guys I just jailed a 700 in 220 swift and I am trying to figure out what base and rings I should use. I think I have decided that I will being going with the Vortex HS 6-24x50 scope.

I bought this gun to reach out further than the 17 hornet I have currently been using to hunt coyotes. I use the 17 hornet from 50-300 yards and I am hoping the 220 will get me the 300-500+ I am looking for.

I am looking to spend around $200 for both the base and rings but am willing to spend as much as $300.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have that exact rifle. You will be very pleased! This past week I nailed coyotes at 420, 398, 348 and several between 100-200 yards. It will reach out there for sure! I have a Leupold scope and went with the Leupold 30mm rings.

I would run a 0 MOA base and a set of burris xtr low rings. It will clear the 50mm obj for sure. I got a vssf 220 and thats the set up i have on it. works great.

I'd use some Talley lightweights and something other than a Vortex to put in them but that's just me. The 250 bucks you save on your ring budget will put you into much nicer glass than the Vortex.

Talley lightweight are really nice at $50-60. They never have left a ring mark on any of my scopes. Then put your extra $200 towards even better glass.

I like EGW rails and Burris Signiture rings. The inserts are great. This, or the before mentioned Talleys, are my preferred scope mounting methods.

$100 MAX for the rail and rings means you have a $400 for a good scope. Vortex Viper HS comes to mind.

Well that mostly depends on budget but right off the bat a 6.5-20 Leupold VX-3 would be a good choice. So would some of their 4.5-14 LR's if your willing to drop down in magnification. You might find some of the older Zeiss Conquests still around, if you cant I might be able too. I keep hearing about the Sightrons also, specifically the SIII models but have no first hand experience with them.

I've owned both the 4-16 and 6-24 PST's, My neighbor and shooting buddy has the HS and while they have lots of cool bells and whistles they really suffer in the clarity department when zoomed to their higher magnifications. On the 6-24 it lost clarity past about 16x and the 4-16 model I had went downhill past 12x. Same went for the HS models (pretty much the same scope except no lit reticle) I can say though that both the 6-24 models seemed slightly better on max power overall but still very disappointing for the price that's paid for them.

I havre a 4-16 HS-T, and have had zero issue with glass, and regularly use it out to 1k yards. I will say that Vortex glass is somewhat variable, and others have reported dissatisfaction. I do feel, however, that the glass in mine is easily as good as any Leupold I have had or used, short of the VX/Mark 6 and 8. I would consider it better than anything I have ever seen in any Nikon, but not as good as the Sightron SIII.

I have not ruled out the Vortex. I have Leupolds on all of my other rifles I just wanted to try something different.

What do you guys think about the Night Force Direct mount? I guess what I like is that it is one piece. Pros Cons?
