I am looking for a new 22-250. I have looked at several options. The remington 700 VTR is interesting to me but there is some confusion on the twist rate. Remington's website says the twist is 1 in 12. Every one of these that I have found for sale on buds, gunbroker, etc... all state 1 in 14 twist. Which one of these is correct? Also, what other factory guns in 22-250 have a 1 in 12 or faster twist? I really like the Tikks, I own a tikka 25-06 and love it. According to their website though the 22-250 is a 1 in 14 twist. I really want to shoot 55-60 grain bullets and I just don't think a 1 in 14 is going to work for me.

You can shoot 55 to 60gr pills just fine in a 14 twist 22-250, just not the plastic tip variety. The 14 twist is standard and most rifles chambered in 22-250 have it. There is always the option of a re barrel of any large bolt face SA.

As far as the VTR, the built in muzzle break would be the deal breaker for me. I almost bought one in 223 because of the 1 in 9 twist and was going to cut the break off and re crown at 20 inches but I went with the sps tactical instead.

Cabelas had a special run of VTR's made for them with 24 inch barrel and no muzzle break. Kinda hard to find I'd imagine. They were chambered in 223 and 22-250 with 1 in 12 and 1 in 14 twist respectively.

I think the 1 in 12 is the right twist given the new assortment of plastic tip bullets however the 22-250 gained it's popularity with a 14 twist and retains its popularity still despite the 1 in 14 twist.

It will be easier to buy the action stock combination you want then have a smith fit a 1 in 12 barrel for ya. My o2

I own 2 savages that I have rebarreld myself. I can easily purchase a CBI in whatever twist I want but, I was just looking for a factory gun, mainly just becouse I wanted to try something new, other than savage. I am not really looking to put too much money into a rifle so having a remington rebarreld would take a gunsmith and end up costing me more than I really want to spend. I am building a 223AI right now out of a savage action, just waiting on the barrel. I may just scrap the 22-250 since its not really a need. I really liked my icon and I still have a bunch of lapua brass and dies for 22-250 but I guess I can always sell those.
