remington 770 243

unlike the rem 700adl which is only 60$ more, and the basis for the sniper rifles used by the us army navy and marines; it does not have front locking lugs, or an adjustable trigger and cannot be rebarreled
 
If you don't already have a 770 then they are best avoided. Price under $100.....well maybe. Anything over that.......[beeep] no.

If you already have one, good luck and good hunting.

You would be better of with a Remington Model 7 or 700 in the ADL, SPS or CDL version. You get what you pay for in my opinion.
 
Look into a Stevens 200 made by Savage for good affordable gun. Stay away from 770 or 710 by Remington. The Stevens is a good gun built at an affordable price. The Remington 770 is just a cheap gun where corners were cut to meet a price point.

I don''t have any experience but have heard nothing but good things about the Savage Axis formally known as the Edge. That or the Stevens should be a good gun at an affordable price.

These guys are not trying to discourage you and for sure are not gun snobs by any means...so don't get discouraged! Save up a little more scratch and get something a little better, you will thank yourself and these guys after the deal is done. The Howa's are fantastic rifles and Weatherby uses them for their barreled actions. For 150 more bucks you get a rifle that is 100 TIMES BETTER!!!

Academy sells the Rem. ADL for around $350.00 from time to time. Much better value than the 770. Stevens 200 for around $250, much better buy than the 770 also. Bass Pro has the Red Ryders for $29.95, probably a better buy also. LOL
 
dont do it i made that mistake long time ago cause i wanted a remington and cause i wanted a .270 it turned me off from the big green. only thing i own now in rifles is savages and howas and i have never regreted it and i work in gun shop so i can buy anything at cost. and i like guns that shoot.
 
Some of my favorite rifles are pretty inexpensive, but none are cheap rifles.

If I had a 770, no issues that it would work well for hunting. If I was looking for that price range I'd keep looking.

I've got a savage 111 I think in 25-06 and an edge in the same caliber ($200 screaming deal on GB). I'd have no issues recommending an edge. Except for the trigger that I'll work someday, great shooter.
 
Talked to my buddy at the gunshop, they stopped selling them because of the complaints and had to send a fair share back when they first came out.

I have NO experience with them, just thought id toss that in, for whatever its worth.
