Remington 783

One of my buddies asked me about the Remington 783. I've seen pictures, never seen or held one or even saw a review on here.

So what's the good, bad, ugly of the 783?

I handled one at a local store, felt cheaply made action was rough stock was junk and the finish looked terrible. Other than that I haven't heard anything about them.

Of all the 'budget' guns, it or the Ruger Amerocan are my favorite. I haven't purchased one, and likely won't. But from playing with them in the stores, I'd pick those 2 over any oft he other 'cheapys'.

I've had one in 7mm for a month now,

My perception, It is not a 700 bdl/cdl but it is leaps and bounds better than a 710,770 or 788. Action feels quite "tight and fluid" it also feels "good" when I shoulder it.
Only put 10 rounds of factory core-lok through it so far, so really cant give an accuracy comment yet(was a bit over MOA for the 10 shots) but working on some handloads now that I hope to shoot next weekend

Overall to this point, I am quite pleased with it, and for the 319.99new I paid, all is well with the world.

I should apologize for putting the 788 in there, my personal perception/opinion might offend someone, then jessie jackson would have get involved.

I guess I can't express my opinion without getting ridiculed. Interesting....I was not offended at all, simply taken back by your comment comparing a 788 to the 770 and 710.

The 788 was/is a great platform. Very accurate and reliable. Granted, the rear locking lugs is a bit abstract form the norm, but serviceable. Remington stopped producing 788s because sales were hurting their new at the time m700. M788s still bring a premium when they come up for sale...something that can't even be mentioned in conjunction with a 710/770.

I was hoping that Remington improved on their "budget" rifle their last few attempts were not good 710 & 770 like already pointed out.

I'd call it significantly improved got and finish wise. There are some strange material choices, but I figure that how they're cheaper. And the funny thing of the 710/770 is accuracy reports are pretty good. Anyways...I'd buy one if I needed. I am considering an 8 tw 233 Ruger American for a knock around gun, as well.

I will give you a Ruger Compact American review next week in 223. I'm guessing I have a Stiller action and a 223 showing up at my FFLs on Monday......
