I have a 870 and am building it up for Fox. I want to put a scope or red dot on it. I can get a Saddle mount for it,but how good are they as far as holding zero?? Or should I get the gun drilled and tapped?? Hoping you guys that have one can help.
Jeff

I have a B square saddle mount on my Turkey gun. It has hed up to 6 seasons and never worked loose. I highly recommend them

The gunsmiths here won't drill & tap. They say the receiver is too thin. I use a saddle mount on my turkey gun and have a cantilevered slug barrel. The saddle mount works great and holds up to 3" mags very well. I have probably put over 100 rnds of 3" mags thru mine without any problems.

And also what is better a red dot or a scope for night huntin??? Thanks Jeff
Also any thing else would help me would be appreciated!!!

I put an Aimpoint 9000sc on my Mossberg 835 and really like it. Love the red dot for night hunting.

The mossberg's are drilled and tapped so that wasn't an issue. I had a hard time finding a base, did alot of web surfing. Found one at a place called tactical solutions or someting like that. I considered a b-square at first but after researching them I decided against one. A couple guys said water/moisture gets under them and your reciever may rust. Another guy mentioned his mount moving. If you can get your reciever drilled and tapped I would recommend it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a B square saddle mount that I use for Turkey and have a cantilevered slug barrel for deer. I have switched the saddle mont off and on for three years now and the pattern still hits the same area and I have not had to make any adjustments. I used the saddle mount for deer, before I had the cantilever barrel, and never had to a problem with zero with the slugs.

The receiver is not to thin, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif had my 870 supermag drilled & tapped and put a red dot on it and love it. I did'nt want to add any more weight to the gun with a saddle mount. Mine is a coyote rig that has seen three years of punishment so far, and I have no problems with the mount. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
