Anyone able to give me their experience with these.
Do they hold together better than Ballistic tips?
How would they perform on yodle dogs and deer?

"WTB a Shell holder for a Herter's super model 3, that will hold a 270 or 300 WSM."

So you are actually looking for two different shellholders?

Or are you talking about a 270 WSM?

I,ve shot lots of em out of both .223 and 22-250. Very accurate from most guns, accurate enough for most hunting applications anyway. They work very effectively on coyotes, but you will probably get more exit wounds than what you would see with ballistic tips, unless you are trying to save hides this really isn't much concern. I lived in your area long enough to know most of the yotes you encounter aren't going to take much of a price drop from an exit wound, they aren't worth much to bigin with. As for deer, i have little experience with the .22 caliber bullets, but i did loan a 223 to a friend and his son shot his first two deer with these bullets without any problems, entry right behind shoulder and bullet stopped against hide on opposite side, one was at 186yds. One fell right were it was shot, the other went about 30 yds, just have to be very selective with shot placement, as you should be with any caliber/bullet.

Thank you for the information. I will buy a box and give them a try.

Anyone else have a report on what they do with deer?

For deer, I would go with a 63g Sierra Semi point with a max load of IMR 4350 and a win primer, which will stabalize in a 14 twist.

53g Barnes tripple shocks kill deer very well.

I have a couple of boxes of these I'd make you a good deal on if you're interested. I got them in a purchase of bulk handloading components.

A few years ago I shot some from my 10" Contender into soaking wet newspaper bundles. They performed wonderfully at this velocity (probably around 2600fps) They out penetrated the 130 grain sst out of my 270 win. I got one of the shot bullets out just now and measured & weighed it. It originally was 55 grains It now weighs 54.6 on my RCBS scale. The mushroom is 1/2 inch wide and symeterical. I took some photos just now and if you PM me with your E-mail address I'll send them to you, if you wish.

I have shot two mule deer with these bullets each out of a different gun. My first was in an AR.223, #175 deer neck shot at 70 yds. no exit and a dead deer in its tracks. Next was #220 shot at about 50 yds, with 220 swift frontal chest shot,Deer reared up and fell over DRT. It is the only bullet I shoot it does wonders on coyotes and bobcats. As with any bullet shot placment is key.Frontal shots on coyotes I can't remember when I've had an exit. They will exit on broadside shots but it depends where you place the bullet, major carnage or entrance hole only.In my opinion they are a great bullet.

I bought these 55 grains in bulk per thousand. I load them to 3100 ft/sec and shoot them with my CZ527. So far I've killed only two deer with it at range under 100 yards. Both times were neck shot and they dropped on the spot.

I used this same bullet on feral hogs and have bagged couple of dozens during the past five years. Only one got away and I could not find blood trail. This was the only one that I hit it on the body behind front leg. The rest of the hogs were shot in the head around their ears and none of them made any more than a few steps before going down.

The bulk of ammo loaded with this bullet was used for paper punching and they do well with my CZ slow twist 1:12.

I actually PREFER soft points. I have great luck with them in a .223 load as long as you place your shot well on deer. They are great on neck and heart shots. Pretty good on hogs too if you get a head shot.

Don't know if they are the same now or not, but many many years ago a store was going out of business and I got 5 boxes of Remington 55 GR soft points in 22-250 . Shot them out of a Remington 700 BDL 22-250 Heavy Barrel and the 55 GR SP's shot to 1/2 MOA or better.
