Remington Model 11

Found a Remington Model 11 12ga Improved Cylinder at a local gun shop on the used rack for $249.99. Thinking of going ahead and picking it up but wanted some input as to what some others thought about the Model 11 before pulling the trigger(no pun intended)on grabbing it. I know it's based off Mr. Brownings design and was available in several different configurations. My question is, would you recommend this shotgun based on your use?

Depending on the shape, these are great guns! They are built on the Browning A5 patent. My first shotgun (hand-me-down) was a 20 ga Model 11 with 30" full choke barrel. It was magical in how it performed! I simply couldn't miss with it! Killed everything from woodpeckers to geese!

Thanks for the responses. I would really like an older A5 but the Remington caught my eye. Gun shop wasn't upon this morning when I got off but hopefully I will get to check on it tomorrow.

Have a Remington sportsman 20 gauge....basically a model 11 and etc. My father bought it in late 1940s and I inherited it. Sweet shooting shotgun.

If you do buy the model 11, suggest you visit Remington website and study the manual on it, especially its page on the recoil bushing. Recall maybe 3 different ways to install it, depending on kind of shotgun load you will be using. Set it wrong and it can knock the heck out of you.....chuckle, I know. Also, may do some damage to shotgun itself when bushing is improperly installed.

I had two that I inherited. I kept my Dad's 12ga w/ plain 30" full. I hunted beside that gun (and my Dad) for over 30 years (it harvested a lot of ducks). My son has it now. He takes it out to an informal trap range at least once a year. I would not hesitate to rely on that gun (with proper care and maintenance, see above about bushings also).

I has a Rem model 11 12ga with a 28" modified bbl and a 30" full bbl with solid rib on both. I inherited the gun from my grandfather so I'm sure it dated back to the 1930s maybe older. I have to say it was the best shooting shotgun I have ever owned and I've owned a bunch. The only drawback is that they are heavy suckers for hauling around in the field all day. Great blind gun though! I wish I still had mine.
