Remington Model 12 22LR questions

The ex inherited a Remington Model 12 pump rifle from her father when he passed away. Its been 10-12 years ago and she had the rifle stashed away and even forgot she had it until the other day. Going through some junk, she came across the rifle. That's when I get the call. She's really upset and asked me to come over, so I did. Then she shows me the rifle. OMG....what a mess. The little rifle is covered in rust. Her original intentions were to sell it as she has no use for firearms. I brought it to my house and tried cleaning it up but its pitted severely and thats being conservative. I took it to my smith and we took it apart and cleaned it up a little and unbelievably, it still functions just fine but man its fugly. I looked online about replacement parts and they are scarce....and pricey. The way its looking, it needs a barrel, receiver and trigger guard to be nice again. I can get a trigger guard but receiver and barrel are not to be found as of yet. Problem is even if I find the parts, even breaking even will be tough. I'm not real sure what to do. The pitting is BAD on the barrel, receiver and trigger guard. I don't think there is much chance of repairing those other than just getting it as good as possible and call it good enough. Any suggestions or leads on parts would be much appreciated.

The cost of replacing all of those 3 parts and having a smith do it is likely more expensive than buying a replacement rifle. If she has no use for it, it may be best to cut her losses.

My smith is one of my best's buddies so cost to change out would be minimal. Parts... if I can find them will probably put me over the value of the rifle but it would be nice. LOL, the wood is near perfect. I thought about parting it out as parts are hard to find so it seems, but that is a PITA too.
I can buy the rifle off her pretty cheap and blasting it and coating it was an idea. Just finding someone to do it. I may just give her some $$ for it and mess with it a little at a time. My smith offered $100 for it. I'd rather give her the money and keep it myself.

Open the action and look at the funky way they chambered that
thing. I was told it is nearly impossible to duplicate it with
a new barrel. It's now just a wall hanger, giving memories
about my grandmother hunting rabbits with it from a horse drawn
sleigh.

After they sold the farm and moved to town, it was hung on a
basement wall for around 30 years. I feel your rust pain!!

Oh, this one will shoot, too. After getting a lot of rust out
of the barrel, accuracy was 3"@25yds, about what I can get out
of the 9mm pistola.

I went to a local show a couple of weeks ago and a guy had one for sale. Not mint by any means but not beat to he11 either and he was asking $400. I saw one in a gun shop today with the round barrel, it was a 12A and a consignment gun and he was asking $1000. WOW! A lot of difference. The gallery gun according to Blue Book was $2000 in 100% condition. The stock and all internal parts are in good shape. I thought about keeping it and doing what I can to clean it up and just use it as a plinker. Its not worth much the way it is.
