OK, Im new to the sport and have a new gun question. I have the Remington r15 in .204 cal. I need to know how to SAFELY remove the fore end tube. I wont rest easily until I have cleaned beneath it. Thanks!!

I just got back from the range for the first time with mine and was wandering the same, but I think it just unscrews. Glad to see another anal cleaner (anal is defined by meticulous in this reference for those of you humorous folks) out there!!!

Your kidding, right ? You don't remove the forend tube. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My Bushmaster Varminter is the same way. I got 20 inches of barrel that I cant really get to to wipe down and clean. Cant say I really care for it myself. Simply cant be good for the guns but removal is not as simple as unscrewing unfortunately. Never have been able to understand the design.

Actually it is as simple as just unscrewing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif The problem is trying to hold the rest of the rifle as you are trying to get the tube loose. They are usually installed pretty tight when they are built, so getting them loosened up usually requires a strap wrench on the tube and the rifle held in a vice with one of the specialty tools/reciever blocks made for that purpose.

IF you get it loose you may need to remove the gas block to take it completely off. I've got my gas block machined off enough that the tube will go over it and I can remove the tube without removing the gas block. I'm not sure what gas block they use on the R15. May or may not go over the gas block.
