I am new to the forum, and know nothing about a AR style rifle i cut my teeth on a M14 rifle in late 70. Is the R-15 a good gun to start out with or should i look at a differnt brand. I would like to stay with the 308 win. round.

First Welcome to P.M., you'll enjoy the folks and info here. Second, you won't buy an R-15 in 308 cause they don't make it. What you need is an R-25. Makes and models are pretty much a toss up. Find one you like and go for it. I would suggest staying with the name brands, Rock River, DPMS, ect. Then there are the customs, larger investments, better bells and whistles.

Welcome to Predator Masters.
You cut you teeth on one heck of a good rifle! I too am a fan of the M14 service rifle.
I wanted an AR in .308 as well and went with the Armalite AR10 rifle. There are various companies currently making good solid dependable AR10 rifles you just need to get to some shows or stores that stock them and see which you like the best.
I went with Armalite simply because i was in the right place at the right time but it IS a fantastic rifle.

Welcome to the Black Rifle Disease, it is addicting and highly contagious!!!

The DPMS LR-308 was NRA's Rifle of the Year and there are many great reviews on them. They have a lot of accessories if you want to customize it.

Welcome to PM, you'll love it. I will also warn you, just when you probably "thought" you had "enough" guns, as soon as you walk down the black rifle road, you will be infested by "the disease", and it will take on a while new dimension. Just remember the AR-15 (R-15) is based on the 5.56/.223 round and the AR-10 (R-25) is based off of the .308 cartridge. (why Remington couldn't call it the R-10 I do not know). Anyway the previous posts have you steered in the right direction as well. Just do your research and have fun doing it.

R25 is what I used to deer/pig hunt with and love it!
A little heavy but I can deal with that.
The thing is extremely accurate. Hope to get in some long range shooting with it this spring.

I looked at the DPMS LR308T and the sport model on thier web site they appear to be the same as the R-25. Our local gun shop has a r-25 in 243 with a camo scope and bypod for $1599.00 price tag. That a little hard to sell the wife on.

R-25 in .243 Winchester on sale at Scheels in LaVista NE a couple weeks ago for $800.00 was used but looked brand spankin new, I couldnt even see where any optics had been mounted on it. I suggest shop around as it looks like prices are coming down.I ended up taking home a LR-.308 AP4 for $950 NEW
FYI the R25 is made by DPMS,happy shopping and hope the Mrs. understands.A mans gotta have his toys ya know?
