Hey fellas, my father-in -law got me a Remington Spartan for Christmas. It is an over under 12 ga and .223 I have never heard of it or shot an over under. anything yal can tell me about this gun is appreciated. Thanks, Brad

If you want to search for more information check out the Russian BAIKAL line of firearms. Your gun is a Baikal imported for Remington. It is exactly what it says it is - spartan. It will give decent service, it's just a little, well, uh... spartan. Ya know?

Thanks for the come back fellas, It is a good looking gun. Since I have no experience with a combo gun I'm just a little apprehinsive. My concerns are weight, Fire power or lack of and Expected potential accuracy. I havn't had a chance to shoot it yet but, have heard from others that combo guns aren't known for their accuracy. Don't get me wrong I'm not unapprecitive. It was very nice of him. Just unfamiliar with this type of weapon I guess. Thanks, Brad

No frills shotgun or in your case a utility gun.
Sort of apropriate since Remington imported thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of rifles to Russia since the time of the czars

I bought a Baikal IZH-94 20ga/22lr last year when they were still being imported by EAA and it cost around $400 at the time. I wish now that I had ordered the 22 mag. I got it for a rabbit gun and like it so well that I am ordering a 12/.223 like yours. I have no idea what they cost now. You will find it very stiff to operate for the first 100 rounds or so. Savage makes the Mod 24 combo but the price is much more than the Baikal. Does your gun actually have Spartan stamped in the barrel?

Yes, on the underside is stamped Spartan, BaKail Russia and on the right hand side of the barrel it is also stamped. My father-in-law said it was built in Russia but, with Remmington tooled parts. Did you find your .22 to be accurate? Man it's heavy. What are some of your likes and dislikes of this weapon? Thanks, Brad

It doesn't use any "Remington tooled parts." The same gun has been around for awhile under the Baikal name, made with Russian materials and labor. You can buy one now stamped Baikal made the same as they've always done, and, currently do for Remington. The shotguns have been stamped both Remington and Savage. The American companies import them with their name on the gun and charge a few bucks more because of the advertised American name on the firearm. Same gun, same material, same Russian labor - American name stamped on it and a slightly higher price tag. No difference... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
