The specifications on this rifle look pretty good for a $750.00 gun, has anyone tried it?

The single-shot, solid-bottom receiver design of the Model XR-100 Rangemaster produces an extremely rigid and stable action that results in tack-driving accuracy. Matched with a 26-inch hammer-forged varmint-contour barrel with concave target crown, the satin blued barreled action is fitted to a black and gray laminated thumbhole stock. The resin-impregnated stock provides exceptional strength and dimensional stability, and includes a rollover cheekpiece and a beavertail fore-end with lightening-vent cuts under the barrel channel for improved heat dissipation. A first for a Remington production gun, the Model XR-100 Rangemaster is equipped with an externally adjustable Model 40-X™ target trigger. The trigger pull weight can be adjusted from 1 1/2 to 3 1/2-pounds. Swivel studs are also included.
 
I've been through two in 204, and they won't shoot worth a dammn... I still have the second one, and will rebarrel it this fall.

I agree with CatShooter. I got one in 204 shortly after they came out and mine wouldn't shoot 1 1/2 on a good day. Trigger was OK but not what I expected. Sold about 3 weeks after I bought it.
 
It is a very good action, the same as the XP100 pistol. A lot of BR rifles have been built on that action. The problem is that Remington barrels are a crapshoot, some very good, some junk.
And like all factory rifles, they have to get a good pillar bedding job before you can tell if they will shoot.

I have one in 204 that shoots excellent, 5 shot groups in the 1/2" MOA range or better are the norm. My brother has one in 223 and it shoots very good also, his will do 3/4" easily. The Remington barrels are not as good as they were 20 years ago but are for the most part good, or can be made to shoot good with a little effort on your part.
It took a couple hundred rounds and some scrubbing with JBs and some limited use with Flitz to make it shoot. Now it is my go to prarie dog gun.
Don't be affraid to buy a Remington, just be prepared to do a little work to get it to shoot. I have not bedded my rifle, don't think it would help mine.
The trigger that comes with the XR is adjustable for weight of pull, it does nothing to eliminate the seemingly endless amount of travel til' it contacts the sear.
3 words- After market trigger!
Just keep the old one to send along with it if ever you need to return it to Remington. I've learned my lesson.

Can someone explain to me why we have to go to work and fix a new rifle and take a chance on getting a bad barrel when we can buy a CZ 527 American that has a great trigger, lapped barrel and are tack drivers?. EVERY one of the 6 I own are tack drivers!

even still explain, why anyone would want a single shot gun as well.
 
I got this in a 22-250. Outstanding performer 1/2" or better, Even @ 200 yds.

Personal thing. I enjoy the challenge of make one shot and make it count. On varmints

Because, more often than not, the most accurate rifles are single shots.

That's EXACTLY why there's only 1 Remington in my possession. I have several "other" brand rifles (some of you know which ones) that are 1/2" or better shooters right off the shelf.

Not sure they need to be rebuilt but some rifles need a little TLC to make them a shooter. Whether it be bedding, trigger, barrel lapping etc... Some tack drivers just aren't born that way, they just need a little coaxing to get there.

When I was getting into shooting (12 years old) my oldest brother and his buddies all shot Remingtons for whatever reason I don't have a clue. The rifles all seemed to shoot and that was expected back then. Its kinda like Coke vs. Pepsi or Ford vs. GMC, once you start using a product you don't want to change as long as it performs to your satisfaction. I guess I'm a Remington guy from long ago although I'm at a point in my life where I'm getting a bit pickier on the type of rifle I want to shoot. This forum and others aren't helping /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif as I want to improve upon what I already have, about the only way to do that is custom.

Like anything else, its gonna cost yah!
 
I've got one in .223 and it groups pretty darn good. Using match bullets and VV N-133 it shoots in the .2-.5 range. So far I haven't done anything to it except play with the trigger, bedding job is next just to see.

Send 5 to me me and 5 to Cat. When each of us are done we can swap them out and see if there's more to be done to them. I can't speak for Cat, but I won't even charge you until I'm done with all 10, so other than shipping it will be a long while before it costs you anything. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
