REMOTE CONTROL

BIGK

Have been thinking of trying to make my own caller.Could anyone tell me if this piece of kit would be any good for my caller to make it remote. I think 30m would be far enough as I will be shooting with a shotgun.

Any advice would be appreciated. I had thought of buying a Foxpro FX5 but when I would pay postage etc it would be very expensive. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I have one of those and it works OK for me when I'm teaching. I don't know how far it would reach but I will try and test it out this afternoon as I'm wanting to use one for a remote for my e-caller.

OK BigK; I put my caller together this afternoon and it worked fine. I then hooked up the wireless remote we are talking about and tried it. I got 50 yards before it got intermittant. I did not unroll the receivers antenna, just left it rolled up like it came. One might get more distance if the little antenna was unrolled and hung up or something. I found out it works OK if there is nothing between you and the caller. So for using it at 30 meters should be ok.

Good luck. OB

From the specs listed on eBay I notice two things right off.

First is that the audio frequency range is atrocious for predator calling with only 12.5 KHz on the high end.

Second is that there is not a listed spec for what radio frequency it uses. Can't be certain, but this strongly hints that it may not be not legal for use in the US or FCC registered. While that $4.99 might seem cheap, it sure won't be anymore if you get dinged $15K by the FCC for spectrum abuse (that's the going rate these days).

Understanding how the eBay feedback game is played, his 97% positive rating speaks volumes about what you can expect from this thing.

OB1 Thanks for getting back to me and trying the remote. Is your caller a home made one?if so could you give me any hints.
I see that the remote in question is sold but there is another with the same specs only they say that it has a range of 20m,this too would probably do me.Thanks again.

Lion Ho. You say that the 12.5KHz would not be good enough for a caller could you expand on this as I am not educated in this type of apperatus. As for the legalities of using the specific radio frequency's I don't think that it applies over here as in the US.Could you suggest an alternative?.Thank you also for your input.

Bik K; The caller is right out of AarmintAls.com web site. I just added the remote wireless Mike to it and it works. Doing a google search for the "SKY SDM-788" wireless microphone you can find others for sale. Yes the freq response is only 10 K and animals are believed to be able to hear sounds way over 25 K. So there is a disadvantage there. But others have them and they work. So this is my first shot at this and I didn't want to spend around 800 US Dollars for one right now, maybe later. But for now this will have to work for me. As far as clobbering any part of the radio frequency spectrum, I don't think its going to be a problem out in the woods with only a 50 yard range. The specs on this unit say 100 feet ? Go figure. Good luck. OB

Big K, didn't see your location at first; vast majority of PM activity is from the US. But is there not still frequency control by some national authority, no? That the device's specs don't mention the radio frequencies that it uses, is shoddy at minimum.

Even if legal, the real deal breaker is the loss of crucial audio frequencies. What are you calling in Ireland, foxes, maybe badgers I'm guessing? Rodent squeaks are phenomenal.

Wireless is cool, sure, but not so cutesy that I'd use a device that won't pass coaxing frequencies. There are $40 wireless mics that will, have a proven 100 yd range, and are legal in the US.

The other cheap alternative that works better to pass all the frequencies and is extremely reliable is a simple 20' extension cable. (More than adequate length to get the attention off of you in close quarters.)

OBOne what wireless setup did you use??

LionHo I see on this site people talk about a Nady system, would you recomend this?I have also read of one using an Azden WLX-PRO,if you know of suppliers of either of these please let me know.

I used the "SKY SDM-788" wireless microphone. You can fine several for sale by using a Google search engine or try EBay.

Good luck. OB
