removing paint from gun

hey guys just have some questions about removing paint from my savage 110E in .270. all i did was paint over the finish, no sanding at all. i am wondering what supplies i'll need and what the finish will look like. it chips off sometimes so it shouldn't be too hard and the finish looks pretty good. what do yall think? thanks for the help.

I would try any of the standard paint removers on the metal parts, ie: barrel, action, etc.

On the stock, if it is synthetic, you may have a problem with the paint removers etching or even melting the plastic. So I would try just applying a small amount to a section of the stock in an area of little concern. Try looking at the barrel channel, if there is paint there I would try starting with the paint remover in the channel to prevent any cosmetic disruption.

If it is a wood stock you may be in trouble as most paint removers will take off all paint and gloss coatings on the wood.

You may try plain old lacquer thinner to remove the paint on the stock but even then you will likely damage the wood coating.

go to your auto supply parts store and get a couple cans of "gumcutter2+2" wrap a rag around the gun and wet it down, let it set about 20 seconds and wipe off what ya can, then repeat, it'll all come off. just watch and don't let it set to long on the wood or it'll gradually soften the clear finish. When ya get it off the finish will be kinda dull just clean it with pledge, also oil the metal cause the gumcutter will suck the oil out of the steel
