Resizing 223 AI with 223 die

I am shooting a T/C contender in 223 AI. I have used my 223AI neck sizing die for years. Now I am having some cartridges failing to discharge on the first try, sometimes the second or third try is necessary.

I've been told that full length resizing is necessary. I don't have a 223 AI full length die. I do have the standard 223 die. I can't find any full length 223 improved dies online.

I'm sure it can be done and would make them function, but obviously overworks the brass. In the end, ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Maybe a better route to take temporarily would be get more brass to use, and neck size as you have been, while you continue to search for the AI die.

Reddings are also available if you want to spend the coin. I have the Lee's in that caliber, they load remarkably straight ammo.

No way would I attempt to use a regular die on Ackley brass.

I 2nd the get more regular brass & fireform it while chasing a proper die.

A 223 body die should get you in the game. You could always run it in a 204 die with no bushings and I'd bet you'll get that body where you need it.

Thanks for that. I will order the Lee set even though it's not the best. I will neck size again for subsequent reloadings.

When you close the bolt on your 223AI is it hard to close, with your 223AI rounds?

When you put a 223 Rem round in it and close the bolt it should be a tight fit, a little hard to close the bolt.

On your 223AI reloaded rounds is it hard to close the bolt on the rounds that don't want to fire?

I have two 223AI's and on one of them the gun smith did not set the barrel back .004" like I asked him to. Sometimes the round wouldn't fire and sometimes the brass would crack in the middle of the brass.

I had to take my rifle to another gunsmith, and he set the barrel back, so the 223 Rem rounds are a snug fit in the 223AI chamber. Now I don't have any problems with the round not firing or the brass cracking.

I use the Lee 223AI dies and resize all of my 223AI reloads.
