REVIEW OF JP 6.5 GRENDAL AND RECOIL ELEMINATOR BREAK
I could NOT be happier with my JP Enterprises 6.5 Grendal. I was able to touch 6 out of 7 shots in the bull’s-eye at 100 yards with wolfgold 120 gr MPT ammo (EXCEPTIONAL ammo for the cost). At 200 yards I was able to put them in the bull’s-eye and ¼” group. This was with the first 20 rounds through the weapon. I have not even broken it in yet. 1 MOA at 300 yards. I have yet to try it out on my 600 yard range. I have reviewed the 6.5 Grendal extensively on another post. This is my first JP weapon and was a little nervous due to the cost. This is the second 6.5 I have owned. The first was a Kies and I got a refund after several problems. I was a little nervous to say the least on a second and at almost twice the cost. “You get what you pay for” is the truth. I would not have a second thought about paying the extra cost for JP if you want an OUTSTANDING and above average weapon. I love my Bushmasters (see review of BM 450), they are excellent, reliable weapons and very cost effective however for my 6.5 Grendal (which BM does not produce) I wanted exceptional to match the caliber and that is what I got.
As far as the muzzle break goes (JP’s Recoil Eliminator) I was impressed. I did my research before ordering it and there is a lot of “opinions” out there regarding the RE break. I read a lot of complaints about the noise. I was wearing my electronic ear muffs and nothing else. I did not notice any (very little, was hard to tell) difference to tell you the truth. I have my own range so I did not/do not have people shooting next to me. I did notice that it blew my stuff off the table with the back pressure. I am sure the noise is louder to the sides but the most important question is why would you not have hearing protection on while shooting. This is why I changed to the electronic ear muffs so I could wear them while hunting. This crap about needing both plugs and muffs with the RE is just that, “crap”. I can only comment on being the shooter though, I did NOT have an opportunity to stand next to it.
As far as the reduction it was very noticeable. The 6.5 felt like my 5.56. I was able to get right back on sight through the scope. Almost able to not even lose sight picture while shooting. I was impressed and more so than my KDF which I have had problems with. The real test will be when I put it on my Russian 7.62x54 which kicks like a mule. That will be the real test for the JP RE.
This would be wonderful for a deer gun for young people that might be scared or effected by the recoil of a “good deer caliber”. I have used my 5.56 for years deer hunting but I am an expert marksman and shot placement is everything. For someone that is not an expert, they need a larger bullet with more energy than the 5.56. I have shot deer with a 6.5 and it is very effective without the meat damage of some of the traditionals (.270, 30-06, 300 WM, etc).
Bottom line………. You will not be disappointed and take advantage of my mistake; you get what you pay for. JP is worth the extra money in my opinion.
