I picked up another jewel from Cabelas bargain cave, I couldn't resist. Retail shows $499, this one looked like new, got it for $291. Impressed that it's made in Japan unlike most which are Phillipines or China now. I had to get it home and try it out. I mounted it in Signature rings on my bull barreled 223 AI AR15. Took it out and was very impressed at the brightness, clarity and overall view thru the scope. Had it dialed in in 2 shots.
So the wind was blowing a bit, but I pulled the truck up on a hill where I had a pretty good view of a small pdog town. I stood in the box and used a bipod and rear bag on the cab and ranged pdogs out to 565 yards (the furthest one I could see) and proceded to let some lead fly using the bdc. I had determined that the 3rd dot was about 6.7 moa down, which was my drop for 500 yards. I lined up on a dog at 500 that was directly down wind and drilled him on the first shot! Other dogs faired a little better, as that wind was tough on the little 40 gr vmax, but another one did bite it a few shots later, then I gave up as they disappeared.
Overall very impressed, this won't be my last Elite, esp if I can find a few more deals.
Two things I see that could be improved, the DOA dots are 1 moa in size, they could be half that and still be plenty big. It didn't hurt me in the field though. The other is trade out that stupic "rack bracket" for some meaningful windage dots like the new Burris E1. BTW I picked up one of those too, 3-9 by 50, with the E1 reticle, for $174. It will go on my 6x45 from Kag when it gets here Wednesday. Very impressed with the brightness of it too.
