Rifle Camo

Good afternoon,
I am looking to camo my gun, it's a Rem 700, synth. stock, stainless fluted barrel. I don't want to paint it as that id too perminate. I was looking to do some sort of material wrap.

Looking into it I read that you do not want to wrap the barrel and the forestock together due to some harmonic ballance isues. I don't need any problems with accuracy just to camo my gun.

Has anyone successfully done what I'm looking to do? Please help.

Thank you in advance,

Dakman

They sell the "tape" that comes in several different camo patterns at all the big chain stores. It is not really tape, it is more like ACE bandage material that stretches and you can wrap it all up.

hope this helps-Tim

Cabelas's and Midway also sell some Velcro on camo covers for the front and back of a rifle. What tj is talking about is "Vet Tape" and you can get it at most veterinary supply places.

dakman,
It is important for you to know though that you have to replace that "vet tape" very frequently. If you do not it will retain mosture from the heat or the cold and will rust the barrel and leave a residue on the stock. But it is a cheap way to camo the gun over and over again. I bought the flesh colored tape and then took a black and green marker and broke it up reall good in branch pattern and it looked pretty good and shot lots of yotes that way.

Awesome, this sounds like just what I need. With regards to not wrapping the barrel to the stock and the harmonic balance, whats up with that?

Vet Wrap, in three colors. Or get some burlap, use spray paint onh the burlap wrap your rifle and secure with electrical tape or some other weather proof tape. the burlap unravels makeing a more diverse outline and tends to blend with underbrush

Been playing around with this vinyl camo this morning. I'm impressed so far.

I used Camo Form in M.O. Brush pattern on my AR for the Globe hunt.

It comes off easy, sticks only to itself & leaves no residue. Doesn't have the "cool factor" of a fully camo dipped stick, but it breaks the dark color up pretty good.

I kinda like my black rifles being black & haven't found it in my heart yet to take the Krylon to one....

The Camo-Form wrap works well. The reason they don't recommend wrapping the barrel to the stock is that it can mess with the accuracy of a free-floated barrel. If your barrel isn't free-floated, don't worry about it.
That vinyl wrap job on the shotgun looks outstanding. Ask Sick1 how he managed to get such an excellent result.
On my AR-15, I'm using a combination of bow-flage tape (on the barrel, gas block, EOTech shroud and bottom of magazine) and Camo-Form on the float tube and stock.
It looks cheesy in the gun safe, but in the field it's very effective. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I too used camo form wrap on my gun, but will soon paint it with some Krlon. I didn't do much testing but didn't notice a change in accuracy, but i wrapped half the barrel on its own and then started with a new strip when i got to the stock, and did it very loose.

Evil,

I didn't specify but I cut three pieces of Camo Form to do the AR. One for the barrel, a second short piece for the gas block, and lastly, a long piece for the Hogue handguard.
Makes for an easier time of wrapping an unwrapping too...

Got a pic of your AR done up?

And that vinyl stuff does look pretty darn good. Nice job!

EL, I used a heat gun to get it to form and stick. Like I said, I'm realy impressed with the product. The only problem with it is that it won't stay formed on inside corners / angle changes, so cuts have to be made. Out side corners work well.
