rifle carrying system.

Looking for a rifle carrying system for long walks in to hunts, something that will have the rifle vertical barrel down fit to or around my patrol pack, something better than the gunslip i am currently struggling with over my shoulder. Are there any kind of systems you think would be suitable.

Sorry can not see a link to any sling.
What i want is fr the rifle to be slung on the pack if you understand like midway supported by both the straps or its own straps even some kind of scabbard perhaps, stop it being across my chest around my neck or over the one shoulder. I did think about fastening it horizontally but i am sure the length in that position will be even more inconvenient to use. I got the idea of that old kirk douglas film romancing the stone, never watched the film, but saw he had a old ithaca 37 in a scabard off his back pack, but obviously will need to be more central than with a lightweight cut down shotgun.

Just found this sling it looks as close as i have seem, could it be used with a longer suppressed rifle or do you feel it be too long.

I would suggest you contact skinny (O'Neill Ops)over on the predator section. He uses that type of pack and rifle carrying combo with barrel down. You can usually find some of his videos showing him hunting with the pack/rifle combo in the Predator section as well. He hunts suppressed all the time so the outfit he uses is probably what you're looking for.

Eberlestock packs...I believe they run the Operator pack to carry all their rifles, filming gear, e-caller, suppressors, etc. Quality packs and they secure a bolt gun or AR15 very nicely. They are a little expensive, but awesome! I love my Gunslinger II.

To the OP, it sounds like you want something like the Eberlestock pack. They carry the rifle in the middle of your back and you can cinch it down snug.

Here is the setup I am currently running and so far it has worked very well for me. Its a Maxpedition Falcoln II pack with a NcStar MOLLE tactical rifle/shotgun scabbard. The scabbard securely fits my bolt rifle with a scope and Harris bipod, doesn't work so well for an AR15 though...magwell and scope hit this particular scabbard towards the top, preventing the rifle from going all the way in.

Its a little unbalanced....

But grabbing the rifle from the scabbard is a pretty simple motion.

Hope this helps.

One more for the Eberlestock pack. I just got a Gunrunner II. The pack holds the rifle centered in a slot between your back and the main body of the pack, and is very easy to access, much like Zegles side scabbard only centered. It has a ton of compression straps and attachment points for MOLLY stuff. The only drawback is that a scoped AR will only fit in down to the pistol grip(which leaves the same amount of butt stock sticking out as a bolt gun so it really doesn't matter) They also have a Gunslinger pack that will hold a scoped AR with a 10-20round mag inserted, but it is much bigger a bit more spendy. I'd put up a pic, but my computer isn't playing nice(or I'm just too inept to figure it out). PM me and I can text you a pick or two if you'd like.

Don't know how much carrying capacity you're looking for, but the Eberlestock X3 LoDrag is specifically designed for "tactical" weapons, which would include an AR15 with mag and scope. It's not super light (5.5 lbs) and not cheap at $200, but it's money for carrying an AR all day.

I use a VTAC Sling. Check out this video, and you will see what I mean, video: VTAC Sling.

As you requested, I can carry my rifle vertically down in front of me (on my chest) or behind me (on my back). I have both hands free to do whatever, use binocs, climb a barbed fence/post, etc...

If its in front of me, I can quickly bring the rifle up and get my sights on that coyote. For a long distance shot, I can tighten the sling down to help with stability.

I absolutely can not stand normal rifle slings anymore now that I use a VTAC sling. With a normal rifle sling, I usually have the trigger guard jammed in my back, and most of those slings are not long enough when you carry gear or have heavy winter clothing on. And like you said, "struggling over my shoulder" - it sucks, cuz the sling and rifle usually slip off my shoulder (what a pain)

So since you have a rifle (instead of an AR), you'll probably have to rig it so that you can have VTAC attached to the side of your rifle.

i use an eberlestock x2 pack for all my day hunting needs. from archery elk in september to coyote hunting all winter. its great i really like it with the scabbard that i got with it. $189 retail but i get tons of use out of it. i dont even have a sling on my gun at all because i always use this system.

If you have an AR style rifle, I would assume you have a rail system? They make sling loops and tactical sling loops that attach to any rail system. If you dont have a rail, for instance its free floating? then you'll probably have to do a custom job, such as attach a sling stud and then sling loop.

Nimrod Back Scabbard, works great on skis, snowshoes, bike and hiking.

Carries all my gear, no loading or unloading at the truck, everything is right out where you need it, shooting sticks, decoy, shell and range finder hangs on a D-ring on the front.

Small pouch above the shell loops has sandwich, candy bar, coyote drag, skinning knife, spare mouthcall, flash light and matches.

I would suggest looking at Kifaru for a rifle carrier. The only thing is their rifle carrier carries with the barrel up. The do have a new pack that allows you to carry tip down if you choose. That's if your in the market for a new pack too.
