Rifle Hard Case..............

dumb side story... I bought a big case....$200 case...I think. I have yet to use it. it's so big, I don't use it. I use a soft cover case that is small and fit's my rifle perfectly every time I hunt.

if I ever need a TSA case...I own one.... haven't used it yet. this was expensive......

I read about a lot of people using a hard case...........why? My rifle of choice is an AR10..308 with a 20" barrel..and I use a soft case. Why the hard case???????????

I have an AR10......am I going to break it, in my trunk? NO!!

They are great for long trips where things my get banged around or if you need to fly or ship your rifle. I use one when I travel so i can put my rifles in the back of the truck and not worry too much about them. Once I get there.....it's a soft case or no case at all if it is not required.

I use soft cases often, but have a nice hard case for trips. Often the trip to eastern Oregon requires gear to be in the back of the truck, sometimes exposed to the elements. So a good waterproof hard case has a time and place.

But most of the tim, I think your are right, a soft case works fine. I got a big enough case to fit my AR and my MVP and a batch of various mags....

Rifle scopes do get bent ever so little in soft cases when they beat up against something.

Hard cases are not convenient at all, but they do help.

Don't quote me on the exact number, but for every .001 that a scope gets bent, it will amount to inches at 100 yards...how many...I can't remember.

Here ya go, Keith.
.012" = 1 moa
That's why I carry scope mounted rifles in hard cases.

I have a locking gun rack that holds 4 guns in my van, but if I'm going to be hunting with someone where the guns are just lair in the back of the PU or on the floor and might get stuff loaded on top I use a hard case plus air travel. I rarely fly with guns any longer as I live in my hunting truck and it is usually cheaper to drive somewhere and live in my van than to fly and stay in a hotel. I do keep a small stash of guns at my BinL's incase I want to hunt with him and fly in as he has a room for me also.

good fun read....

I use a soft case 100% of the time, but I do have an expensive hard case standing in the wings..... it's about size. My hard case is a double rifle case....it's really big. I will probably never use it unless I fly.........
