Has anyone built or had a bolt action or single shot rifle chambered in 5.7x28 and how did it perform? I know savage for a while was planning on coming out with one but that seems to have been dropped.
I know you are asking about a bolt or single shot but I have an AR in 5.7 and love it. It is a great small game/varmint round. I believe a few people have rechambered H&R 22 mag barrels to 5.7.

Yep, I've seen the AR style rifles. I guess i'm just kinda old school with wanting a single shot or bolt action.
I think the H&R route would be an easy way to do it. A rechambered 22 mag barrel fit to an SB2 frame. You could also do it in a contender, EABCO makes barrels, but that would be more expensive.
Have you though about the 22 Hornet? It has batter ballistics and a wider selection of factory ammunition available. The thing that has put me off the 5.7 is that fact that it is not readily reloadable. A bolt action rifle may be different but I know the casing relies on a factory applied polymer coating for extraction. The coating wears off during firing so the cases have a short lifespan.

Yes, I have a 22 hornet and I agree on the ballistics and ammo. I want the rifle in single shot or bolt action that way I don't have to worry about the polymer coating. Plus I just like odd firearms!
Im building one out of an old Ruger No.3 223. Seems to be the easiest route. 1:9 barrel blank, rent reamer, go/no go gauges, and chuck it in the lathe. Order new extractor and file to fit the case.
