I’ve been using the RIX Leap3 for a couple months now and it’s been solid for the most part. It’s my first thermal scope so I have nothing to compare it to.
There is an optical zoom on these things which is pretty sweet. At least in the sense that there’s a series of lenses in the ocular bell that zoom in on the screen inside when you twist the bell like any variable scope. It also has digital zoom but the optical does allow for a clearer, less pixelated image in the scope. The downside is that when you zoom optically, and zoom far enough you end up losing the menu features at the top of the view screen. So if for example you wanted to change a setting you would need to zoom out to see the menus. Also, When zooming optically, any video that is recordedwill be at the base magnification or wherever you were zoomed digitally.
I like that it runs on 18650 batteries. User controls are super simple and intuitive. Any questions I had for tech support were answered and addressed quickly. I’ve killed 6 coyotes so far with it from 70-170 yards out. Holding zero fine. No glitches yet of any consequence. For the price I’m very pleased so far. I kind of wish I sprung for the 640 but I haven’t yet felt like I was under scoped.
