Rock River Arms "Coyote" Rifle

Hello everyone. I'm seriously considering the RRA carbine "Coyote" rifle, since I do not own an AR-15 style rifle. I know nothing about RRA rifles quality-wise or accuracy-wise. Could someone fill me in about such? Also, the "Coyote" rifle comes with the skeletonized buttstock and it appears there is a cushion or rubber wrap on the top portion and I was wondering if someone could confirm this and if they had an opinion of this buttstock?

Thanks

Craig

If you want a varmint style AR i would go ahead and build one if it was me. Thats just my personal opinion. You can built one for a lot less money. You can pick up a complete lower reciever at a gun show for around $250, and you can get a good upper for around $500 give or take a few. Check out DPMS uppers on Midwayusa.com. Unfortunately with the scare that everyone has right now almost all uppers on Midway are out of stock. But before you can and spend all the money on a complete rifle i would check out you possibilites on building one first. You might get something you like better.

just my .02

I recently went through the exact same decision you are making. I ended up getting the Predator Pursuit instead, but I had them put the skeletonized butt stock on it, like the Coyote rifle has. I think it's a better choice as it has a stainless steel barrel and a 1:8 twist as opposed to the 1:9 of the Coyote rifle. However whichever rifle you go with RRA makes quality stuff and it's not likely that you'll go wrong.

you could check out pk firearms. They have alot of specialized uppers that are nice. I just picked one up made by saber defence

I have a rra predator and just bought a car-4. I also have a r-25 in 243. I really like the way that they all shoot. The predator and r-25 will out shoot both of my bolt guns of the same cal. But what I really like is the nm2 stage trigger on the rra. I'm looking for one to put in the r-25. I would say that if you bought a rra you will not go wrong.

Thank you for the replies. Can you purchase straight from RRA and have it shipped to an FFL or do you have to purchase through one of their dealers?

guys paying 1k and more for an off the shelf AR are getting hosed!!!! maybe I should go into the AR biz, a local shop is selling them all day 1100+, here is what I did

superior arms complete lower with DPMS parts kit, don't be fooled the lower does not have any impact on the overall accuracy or function of the rifle. paying tons of money for a name brand upper is foolish, most are made by the same company anyways. I bought 2, so I was able to get them for $180 a piece

a 20" DPMS varmint complete upper from midway, cost me $450, thats a complete gun without a clip for $630,

again I ask why are people paying 1k or more for bushy's and RRA's, if you have more than a grand to spend just get a DTECH

I agree with you steve. But if you know the right guy you can get a complete gun for just a little more than what you spent. The predator that I bought cost me about 800 bones and the car-4 cost me a little more than 800bones at a gunshow a couple of weeks ago. The only one that I spent more that 1000 bones for was my r-25. I also have a stripped lower to pick up on turkeyday to build my next one. Some people just don't want to mess with building one themselves. They want one and they see one so they buy it. I not trying to start any arguments. If people are anything like me. They every once in a while will buy due to an impulse. And on the first couple of rifles I was alittle scared to try and build my own. But thanks to this sight and few others I'm going to be building my next two for my kids.

I hear ya on doing a build, however I bought both parts assembled, so it was a matter of mating the upper and lower with 2 pins. $630 for a complete gun, if he would have went with a 16" barrel I could have got that for $390, thats a complete gun for $570. again I say, if you are spending 1k on a complete gun, you are getting it without Vaseline

That stock is the one I'm running, it's very nice. Lots quieter than the A2 as it doesn't magnify the buffer spring noise and has more mount points for a sling.
Hogue overmolded tube is nice.
Hogue grip is nice.
I'm not a fan of flash hiders, but whatever. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
The winter trigger guard is a nice option.
I haven't shot their match trigger, but a lot of people like them, so I'll assume that's fairly nice.
The 1:9 twist will shoot at least 60 gr. bullets just fine.
The price looks steep, but if you add up the options it's not a bad deal, in my book.

$90 stock
$120 match trigger
$100 Hogue grip/float tube
$15 trigger guard
a case and a magazine

plus it's got a bipod stud already installed.

I've got about that much in my rifle and it's very similar.

You could do a lot worse then that setup, in my opinion.

I recently purchased the 16" model and love it. Took it to the range this weekend and its definitely a shooter. I hope to get my first kill on Friday with it but so far the few rounds I have put through it I am very pleased. I heard RRA are on a serious backorder. You might want to call and see when they can get you one. There used to be a few on Gun Broker.com but I think they have sold out of all the one on there. Good Luck

the batf tax is on a firearm, if you buy the lower at 125.00 then the tax is
on the lower. If you buy the whole ar complete it's on the 800.00 or 1000.00
purchase. I think it's about 100.00 savings. Least this is what I am told.

If you can find one get it you won't be disapointed
I love mine in the 20" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Hand loads it is very accurate but mine is pretty good with the bulk stuff and factory ammo too

Here is a couple pics if this helps

I would have to think that building an AR right now would cost darn near as much as buying one from rock river. Rock river is really behind schedule right now so be prepared to wait. Components are selling for ridiculous prices right now. I just sold three rock river lowers stripped for 220 and sold them in 10 min. pk firearms is just down the road from me and they have a ton of stuff but they aren't even answering there phones right now they are so backed up. They do have some RR uppers in stock but they raised there prices above suggested retail. Things are really crazy right now To say the least. good luck. I have a RR predator pursuit rifle and i love it!!! Lee
