Well, thought I would finally report on my 'HONEY HOLE" for chucks. Local farmer has got a rock draw, a large rock pile bounded by RR tracks and an alfalfa field, a large rock pile next to a set of feed corrals and a rock pile at the base of a dam for a pond at the end of the rock draw.
I went out about a month ago and got 13 in two days with a .223 Rem model Seven and a Ruger 77-17. Had to take a break as work got in the way of my play time and got back out yesterday and today.
Yesterday with the .223 I was able to take down 6 at 225-275 yards and today with the 17 HMR around the corrals and pond I was able to get 11 more, all 100 yards or less, bringing the total to an even 30 for 4 trips.
I got to go work the draw tomorrow. It is a little more difficult as I got to get close to get the right aspect to shoot with a safe background (the farm house and a neighbor's house are in the way for the easiest view).
There are still plenty out there and now they are getting tough to stalk.
As a bonus, last fall he had me out to shoot eurasian collared dove that were overwhelming his feeding operation. I shot close to 3 flats of 12 ga last fall.......think Argentina like conditions!
And all of this I had to do, if he was going to let me hunt pheasant on his property. The things a fellow has to do!
